Citroën C4 AIRCROSS
CITROËN C4 AIRCROSS: A MODERN TAKE ON COMPACT SUVs
This
April, Citroën is expanding its range with a new vehicle aimed at a
fast-growing segment. The Citroën C4 AIRCROSS is a fresh take on
conventional compact SUV design, combining design with technological
innovation.
The qualities of this new body style make
it a perfect fit with contemporary lifestyles, introducing a sense of
escape intomeveryday activities:
- strong, elegant styling drawing upon brand DNA;
- transmission to suit all requirements; all-terrain traction, when
needed, with three manually selected modes (2WD, 4WD and Lock);
- just 119 g of CO2/km with the two-wheel drive HDi 115 version, among
the lowest carbon emissions in its segment; Stop&Start technology
across the entire engine range;
- architecture combining compact lines and a vehicle length of just
4.34 m, generous interior space and, in particular, boot capacity of 442
litres;
- the comfort and driveability that ensure the success of Citroën hatchbacks and saloons;
- a sense of onboard comfort and relaxation, with a raised driving
position, panoramic glass roof and an intuitive driving position that
places the emphasis on driving comfort and easy everyday use;
- a wide array of high-tech equipment: a Navidrive navigation system
with a touch screen and rearview camera, hands-free access and start-up,
a Rockford hi-fi system and a music server.
Available in two- wheel and four-wheel drive versions, the
Citroën C4 AIRCROSS will make its debut in first-half 2012 following its
world preview at the Geneva Motor Show.
Strong styling that draws upon Citroën’s DNA
A
styling heritage: breaking with conventional 4WD design, the Citroën C4
AIRCROSS combines the elegance of brand saloons with the more muscular
lines of an off-roader. Viewed from the front, the wide chrome grille
proudly displays the chevron badge, giving the vehicle a strong
identity. Viewed from the side, the inverted shark fin, first seen on
the Hypnos concept car, features a chrome compass, identifying this car
as a member of the Marque’s SUV family. The wide 18-inch alloy wheels
and rear lights, inspired by the Citroën C4 hatchback and Hypnos concept
car, were designed to optimise air flow and cut CO2 emissions.
A unique personality:
accentuating the vehicle’s compact looks, the horizontal lines of the
front end feature aerodynamic vents at the extremities. The contours of
the bonnet, visible from the driver’s seat, the wide wheel arches and
reduced overhang all reinforce the impression of strength and
performance conveyed by this original body style.
Attention to detail:
the Citroën C4 AIRCROSS combines style and efficiency. At the front,
the daytime running LED lights are integrated vertically into the
aerodynamic vents. In the same way as on the Citroën C3 and new Citroën
C1, the lights make up a vertical light signature, visible by day and by
night. The door mirrors have built-in indicator repeater lights, while
the rear light clusters feature light guides. A rearview camera is
concealed in the chrome trim of the tailgate. The chrome trim on the
lower side panels and tailgate and the dark-tinted rear windows add a
further touch of elegance.
An intelligent vehicle with transmission to suit all needs
With
its new-generation four-wheel drive transmission, the Citroën C4
AIRCROSS delivers impeccable roadholding and a relaxing, enjoyable
drive. Taking account of driver input, road conditions and vehicle
speed, this proactive technology distributes torque optimally between
the front and rear wheels at all times. Compact and lightweight, this
system also minimizes fuel consumption by using low-viscosity oil in the
transfer box.
Transmission to suit: depending on the
situation and their needs, drivers can manually select one of three
possible transmission modes using a control behind the gear lever:
- 4-wheel drive (4WD) mode automatically distributes torque between
the front and rear axles. To optimise fuel consumption, a greater amount
of torque is transmitted to the front wheels (around 98%), whenever
road grip is sufficient. In more difficult conditions, torque may be
equally distributed between axles, 50% on each one.
- “Lock” mode maximizes traction in extreme conditions, increasing the
torque transmitted to the rear wheels by 50% compared with 4WD mode.
- 2-wheel drive (2WD) mode minimises fuel consumption by reducing the number of moving parts (only the front axle is engaged).
Benchmark CO2 emissions
Reflecting the
Marque’s environmental commitments, the Citroën C4 AIRCROSS ranks among
the best in its segment for low CO2 emissions, with the HDi 115 engine.
Mated
to a six-speed manual gearbox, the HDi 115 engine is available in a
2-wheel drive version emitting just 119 g of CO2/km and a 4 wheel drive
version emitting just 129 g of CO2/km. This 1.6 litre engine, which is
contributing to the success of the models in the Citroën range,
latest-generation, develops 115 bhp for maximum torque of 270 Nm from
1,750 rpm, and up to 280 Nm with the temporary overboost function.
The
Citroën C4 AIRCROSS also ships from launch with the high-performance
HDi 150 diesel engine (available in 2- and 4-wheel drive versions with a
six-speed manual gearbox). The 1.8 litre engine is the only diesel on
the market to feature variable valve timing, which gives it a lower
compression ratio (14:1) than any other diesel engine currently on the
market, for outstanding vibration comfort, low emissions, excellent
response and a level of performance worthy of a larger engine.
The
115 bhp 1.6i petrol engine is also available in a 2-wheel drive version
with a five-speed manual gearbox. This 1.6 litre engine features a
double overhead camshaft, 16 valves and variable valve timing. It
combines high standards of performance with low emissions, developing
115 bhp for CO2 emissions of just 135 g/km.
To satisfy
the requirements of international markets, the 150 bhp 2.0i petrol
engine will be available on markets outside Europe in 2- and 4-wheel
drive versions, with a five-speed manual gearbox or continuously
variable transmission (CVT). This 2-litre engine features 16 valves, an
aluminium cylinder block and variable valve timing.
All these engines feature technologies designed to cut CO2 emissions:
- Stop&Start technology (except for the 150 bhp 2.0i petrol
engine). This easy-to-use system is transparent inoperation. The engine
cuts out automatically when the vehicle stops and the gearlever is in
neutral. It starts up again automatically when the driver declutches and
puts the car in gear.
- An electronically controlled alternator that recovers energy during
braking and deceleration. The energy stored up is then used when the
vehicle is idling, accelerating or driving at constant speed, in order
to limit power generation by the alternator, reducing magnetic friction
and thus engine load.
- Electric power steering that consumes energy only when the steering wheel is turning.
Compact, spacious and nimble
With its
compact dimensions (4.34 m long, 1.80 m wide, 1.63 m tall) and turning
circle of just 10.6 metres, this is a car very much at home in towns and
cities. The Citroën C4 AIRCROSS is surprisingly spacious, with a cabin
worthy of the next class up. With five seats and a boot volume of 442
litres, it easily satisfies the demands of contemporary life.
Convenient
in day-to-day use, the rear seat is 2/3-1/3 split/fold and includes a
ski flap. The seat can be folded easily to free up additional loading
space with a flat floor.
Driving pleasure worthy of a saloon
The
running gear was developed to deliver a drive that is faithful to
Citroën’s values, expressing the ideal compromise between comfort and
roadholding.
The Citroën C4 AIRCROSS is fitted with
MacPherson type front suspension and a multi-link set-up at the rear
associated with wide tracks and an anti-roll bar measuring 18
millimetres in diameter. The front and rear suspension spring settings
control body movement while setting high standards in comfort. The 2.67
metre wheel base, close to that of vehicles in the next class up, also
contributes to stability and roadholding. These characteristics optimise
ride and handling on the Citroën C4 AIRCROSS in all situations, for an
exceptional level of active safety.
This result is reinforced by the 18-inch wheels shod with 225/55 R18 Bridgestone tyres.
By
combining driving aids such as ESP with skid control ABS, electronic
brakeforce distribution, hill-start assist and electronically controlled
four-wheel drive, the Citroën C4 AIRCROSS delivers the traction and
handling necessary in all situations.
To ensure driving
pleasure, particular emphasis was also placed on the electric power
steering, which is calibrated to steer a precise course and provide
accurate feedback.
Onboard ambience: comfort and relaxation
The
Citroën C4 AIRCROSS features a raised driving position, giving drivers a
clear view of the road for a relaxed driving experience. This
impression of onboard comfort is accentuated by a cabin that is
surprisingly spacious for a compact SUV.
Enjoy a view
of the sky even in the city: the Citroën C4 AIRCROSS features a large
glazed panoramic sunroof with UV protection and a one-touch electric
blind. The panoramic roof lets the light flood into the cabin,
contributing to the sensation of passenger comfort. By night, the LED
light guides built into the roof turn it amber. For a more muted
ambience, the ambient lighting can be adjusted or turned off altogether.
The
functional, ergonomic driving position features a rational layout for
easy use. The driver gains a leather-covered steering wheel, adjustable
for height and reach, with controls for the audio system, cruise control
and hands-free kit. The steering wheel has a glossy black trim on the
hoop. This “black cosmos” finish is also found on the central fascia and
window-lift plates.
The driving position is designed
for intuitive use, with each function clearly displayed. On the
instrument cluster, the shape of the dials with their chrome surround
and the overall design of the instruments underline the dynamic
character of this compact SUV. The binnacle, which is made of flexible
material, is pleasant to touch. Accentuating the harmonious onboard
design, the transmission mode knob and air conditioning controls also
feature chrome surrounds.
The front seats provide
excellent support and multi-way adjustment (height, fore-and-aft, rake).
They are available in electric and heated versions. For passenger
comfort, the rake of the rear back rest can be adjusted to two
positions. Automatic headlights, automatic wipers and an electrochrome
interior door mirror also contribute to driving comfort and convenient
day-to-day use on this compact SUV.
The cabin includes a
host of storage compartments. Their capacity and design reflect the
emphasis placed on passengers, and the importance of practical features.
The large glovebox is lit and chilled (linked to the automatic air
conditioning), while the front and rear central armrests feature two
ergonomic beaker-holders and a compartment equipped with a 12V socket, a
USB port and auxiliary audio jack.
A wide array of high-tech equipment
For comfortable driving and travel, the Citroën C4 AIRCROSS features a wide array of equipment:
The
vehicle is available with a top-level hi-fi system worthy of a saloon,
developed by Rockford Fosgate, world specialists in audio equipment.
Delivering total power of 710 watts, it comprises eight loudspeakers
placed around the cabin and a 25-centimetre woofer with a dual voicecoil
and 20-litre cabinet installed on the left-hand side of the boot. A
digital signal processing system optimises sound quality from all
listening positions.
The Citroën C4 AIRCROSS can also
be fitted with a high-performance GPS navigation system with a 7-inch
touch screen and hard disk for fast, silent operation. The hard disk
stores mapping data and also has more than 10 GB of storage for music.
Passengers can record up to 2,500 titles in MP3/WMA format and take
advantage of a real music server. The system also includes a DVD drive
compatible with CD, CD-R, CR-RW and video DVD formats.
For
easy manoeuvring and parking, the navigation system is associated with a
colour rearview camera. Concealed in the chrome trim of the tailgate,
this camera is activated automatically when reverse gear is engaged, and
the picture displayed on the navigation screen. Particularly useful in
day-to-day operation, this function is associated with the rear parking
sensors. Manoeuvres are made even easier by two green lines superimposed
on the picture to show the future position of the car if it reverses. A
horizontal red line shows the space necessary to unload the boot.
The
Citroën C4 AIRCROSS is available with hands-free access and start-up.
The driver can get into the car and press the Start/Stop button to start
or stop the engine, without taking the car key out of his or her pocket
or bag. To lock the car, the driver simply presses one of the dedicated
buttons on the front door handles or boot.
A USB jack
in the central armrest stowage compartment lets passengers use portable
multimedia devices or USB flash memory sticks. This function is very
easy to use. The user simply plugs in the appliances and browses content
using the audio buttons of the navigation system or steering wheel
controls.
THE Citroën C4 AIRCROSS also includes a
Bluetooth hands-free telephone function. This is a convenient and safe
option for making in-car calls from a mobile phone, since drivers can
make and receive calls without taking the phone out of their pocket.
With this option, drivers can make calls using the voice recognition
function (French, English, German, Italian, Spanish and Russian) or the
dedicated controls on the steering wheel.
With the
audio streaming function, the Citroën C4 AIRCROSS plays music stored on a
smartphone or compatible audio drive using a Bluetooth wireless
connection.
A high level of passive safety
The
Citroën C4 AIRCROSS has an extremely stiff body structure for precise
ride and handling, keeping the car on course regardless of road
conditions. A high level of passive safety keeps the survival cell
intact and sets high standards in vibration comfort for all the
occupants. To make the body stiffer, “closed section” links are used
between the pillars and roof and on the tailgate.
The
body is designed to absorb and dissipate impact energy through
controlled crumpling of the body in order to protect the occupants. The
front side members are rectilinear with an octagonal section and crush
box structure at the front. A triple leg bearing structure links the
extreme rear end of the front side member to the dashboard central and
lower cross members. The waist line has also been reinforced by welding
the side members together.
The Citroën C4 AIRCROSS is
equipped with a safety system on the brake pedal. This function prevents
protrusion of the brake pedal in the event of high-speed impact.
To
reduce the consequences of possible pedestrian impact, the bonnet
features a crumple zone (double bulge), the windscreen support has an
open section and the front bumper is designed to absorb a significant
amount of energy.
The Citroën C4 AIRCROSS ships with
seven airbags as standard: driver and passenger airbags at the front,
with a function to deactivate the passenger airbag and install a child
seat, two side airbags, two curtain airbags at the front and rear, and a
knee airbag for the driver.
Limited weight
By
using a high proportion of high-strength steel, the brand was able to
reduce vehicle weight while increasing stiffness, with grade 590 MPa
steel used for 14% of the structure, and grade 980 MPa for 5%. The body
panels were slimmed down by using blanks in which multiple layers of
steel of different thickness are welded together before forming, with
optimised reinforcements for the doors. Labels: Citroen C4, Compact SUV

Fast cats love the cold
580PS;
680Nm; 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds; top speed 186mph. These are just a few
of the XKR-S convertible's vital statistics. Powered by the most
advanced version of Jaguar's supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine, it's the
most potent drop-top Jaguar has ever built and was devised with the
intent of providing its driver with as much roof-down reward on the
track as it delivers on the road - a goal achieved with ease courtesy of
its inherently rigid all-aluminium construction.
But
when you've run out of challenging roads and tracks to conquer, where
can the discerning XKR-S driver go next? How about sideways, very
sideways, on a frozen lake in Hämeenlinna Finland? Filmed in the expert
hands of Jaguar test driver Minna Sillankorva, the combination of XKR-S
convertible, ice-covered lake and blue skies could clearly only have one
outcome: fast, frozen, fun. A compelling combination. Labels: Barretts Jaguar, Jaguar Ashford, Jaguar Canterbury, Jaguar XKR-S, Kent Jaguar, New Jaguar

Jaguar XJ220 20 Years
Marking 20 Years Since The Launch Of The Jaguar XJ220
The
XJ220 remains the fastest Jaguar ever produced and when launched in
1992 and, at 213mph, had the highest maximum speed of any production
car. Constructed using advanced aluminium honeycomb, the car was
immensely strong and, despite its size, weighed just 1,470 kg.
Originally
conceived as a concept car, the XJ220 debuted at the 1988 British Motor
Show. Designed by Keith Helfet, the car was signed off for production
in December 1989 with TWR selected as the partner for the project.
Powered
by a 3.5-litre, twin turbo V6, the XJ220 channelled its drive through
the 18-inch Speedline rear wheels shod in specially developed 345/35
Bridgestone Expedia tyres via a five-speed gearbox and an AP Racing
twin-plate clutch. The XJ220 developed 550 PS and 475 lbs ft of torque
to allow it to accelerate to 60mph in under four seconds. Braking was
supplied by a set of AP Racing discs and four pot callipers.
Built
by hand in an all-new factory in Bloxham, Oxfordshire, prototype 001
was completed in 1990 while car 002 achieved 186 mph at Bruntingthorpe
in September of the same year. The first customer car was completed in
June 1992 with a retail price of £470,000.
Production ceased in 1994, by which time 275 cars had been built.
The
silver car in attendance at the recent Jaguar Experience Day held at
the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon is chassis 004, one of 10
pre-production vehicles. This example was used for extensive tyre and
high speed testing at Fort Stockton, Texas, in 1991. Andy Wallace
achieved a maximum speed of 213 mph in the car during the testing
process.
Once these duties were completed the car was
converted to race specification and was campaigned by Justin Law in the
British GT Cup. On being retired from racing it was returned to its
standard, road-going specification.
The yellow car is
an XJ220 S - chassis '220-803'. This is the very first XJ220 S, built
using spare parts from the Le Mans cars, including single-piece carbon
fibre front and rear clamshells, revised springs and dampers and a
claimed 700 PS. The luxurious interior of the road car was dropped in
favour of Kevlar bucket seats and pared down, carbon trim.
The car was unveiled at the Autosport Show in 1993.

Range Rover Special Editions
The
Range Rover enters its 10th anniversary year in 2012, continuing to set
benchmarks in luxury, capability and performance. Going beyond the 2012
model year enhancements that were introduced in October 2011, the Range
Rover line-up is being developed to include three new Special Editions;
The TDV8 Westminster, TDV8 Autobiography and Supercharged
Autobiography.
The new arrivals focus on further extending the luxury and high specifications that are at the core of the Range Rover brand.
In
2012 Land Rover celebrates 10 years of Range Rover in its current
guise. The third generation RangeRover was introduced in 2002 to
critical acclaim setting new benchmarks in levels of luxury and
all-terrain capability. Over the past decade, several facelifts and
model year updates have kept the Range Rover at the cutting edge of
technology leading up to the latest special editions, which will provide
customers with increased options and convenience.
Westminster Edition
The
new Range Rover Westminster Edition joins the line-up to replace the
previous TDV8 Vogue and Vogue SE models. Going further than its
predecessors, it comes handsomely equipped with an extensive collection
of additional features that raise both the vehicle's prestige style and
comfort levels for everyone on board.
The exterior of
the Westminster Edition is distinguished by the bright 'Noble' finish to
the front grille and side vents, 'Titan' silver lower splitter bar and
fog lamp bezels, 20-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels and 'Westminster'
badging. Opening the doors reveals illuminated treadplates and a cabin
finished with luxury carpets and Grand Black lacquer trim elements, plus
bright-finished pedal finishers. The front seats feature both heating
and cooling functions and the in car entertainment system benefits from a
19-speaker, 1,200W harman/kardon LOGIC7 surround sound system as well
as Range Rover's innovative Dual View infotainment screen.
Featuring
the powerful yet refined 4.4-litre TDV8 engine with eight-speed
automatic transmission, thenew WestminsterEdition is available in a
choice of seven exterior colours, with five interior colour
combinations. The standard equipment specification further includes an
electric sunroof, automatic headlights and windscreen wipers, Park
Distance Control with rear-view camera, memory setting for the steering
wheel, driver's seat and rear-view mirror and a heated, leather trimmed
steering wheel.
TDV8 Autobiography and Supercharged Autobiography
Bold
design and ultimate luxury underpin the new Range Rover TDV8
Autobiography and Supercharged Autobiography. Both benefit as standard
from the Range Rover Design Pack, a collection of exterior styling
features that are seamlessly integrated to compliment the car's powerful
appearance, without compromising its classic lines.
The
pack introduces new front and rear bumpers, 'Titan' silver front grille
and side vent treatments and fog lamp surrounds, integrated stainless
steel exhaust finishers and side skirts. These are complemented by
striking 20-inch alloy wheels in Shadow Chrome.
Inside
the focus is on unparalleled luxury and comfort with the Range Rover
Seat Style Pack. This comprises rear seats with recline and lumbar
adjustment, heating and cooling functions and multi-adjustable
aircraft-style headrests with wings for added support. The passenger
"front seat away" function provides a simple control for adding extra
rear legroom, while the front passenger seat itself benefits from a
memory function than can store up to three different personalised
settings.

options. The TDV8 Autobiography retains its 4.4-litre engine and

New SEAT Ibiza
New design language with clear identity
- Improved functionality for day-to-day life
- Upgraded quality throughout
- Three body styles, perfect for every lifestyle
- Thrilling driving fun thanks to state-of-the-art technology
- Ibiza E-Ecomotive with 89 grams/km CO2
- 1.4 TSI and 110 kW (150 hp) in Ibiza ST, too
The next generation of the successful Spanish model is here –
the new SEAT Ibiza captures the heart with its young, emotional design
and fun-to-drive zest, and convinces the head with its innovative
technologies and further improved functionality and quality.
The new line-up offers enormous breadth to meet every individual
demand – from the compact and sporty three-door Ibiza SC, to the dynamic
and universal five-door Ibiza, to the elegantly practical Ibiza ST
estate car; from the extremely efficient Ibiza E-Ecomotive with 89 grams
of CO2/km to the exceptionally sporty Ibiza FR with 110 kW (150 hp).
There are two strengths in particular that are common to all versions – a
very high standard of quality and outstanding value for money. Market
introduction of the new Ibiza is scheduled for spring 2012.

The Ibiza is one of the best-selling models in its segment across
Europe – over 500,000 people so far have opted for one of the sporty,
compact models from the Spanish brand. And the average age of Ibiza
buyers is the youngest among in its market category. Design has long
been one of the Ibiza’s foremost strengths - named as the most important
reason for purchase by customers. And this is set to gain even more
ground in future – with its modern, fresh and optimistic look, the new
Ibiza marks a further significant development of the SEAT design
identity and prepares the way for future models.
“The
Ibiza is an important foundation of our brand. With the new generation,
we are taking a clear step forward – the fresh and young design language
speaks to SEAT’s unique and distinctive character. It underscores the
precision and quality of our products,” says James Muir, the President
of SEAT, S.A. “This makes the new Ibiza a crucial element in SEAT’s
forward strategy. Its success will grow even further, not least in our
new market of China.”
Beneath its expressive design, the new Ibiza offers an impressive
array of innovative technologies. The latest-generation
state-of-the-art TDI and TSI power units, the DSG transmissions and the
start/stop system combine dynamics with exceptional efficiency and
guarantee SEAT’s signature driving fun.
A further example is the SEAT Portable System with touchscreen
monitor. It will combine the functions of a navigation system, on-board
computer, audio system and hands-free device. While it is fully
integrated into the Ibiza’s on-board electronics, it is also removable
for use on-the-go. The introduction of SEAT’s Portable System will come
later in 2012.
“The new Ibiza is a clear showcase for
SEAT’s technical expertise. Emotional design, a thrilling drive and an
exceptionally high quality standard deliver an extremely distinctive
product character – and now with improved functionality. The Ibiza is
the sportiest and most versatile offering in its competitive field,”
says Dr. Matthias Rabe, Executive Vice President for Research and
Development at SEAT, S.A.
The new design
Sporty character and high product quality are written all
over the new Ibiza’s face – SEAT Design stands for technology and
precision, as well as for youthful avant garde and the sheer joy of
life. The distinctive centrepiece is the trapezoidal grille featuring
the SEAT logo. The flatter proportions and horizontal honeycomb
structure of the grille and the lower air intake emphasise the width of
the new Ibiza. The bumpers front and rear have been redesigned with a
look that is particularly accentuated on the sporty Ibiza FR version.
Standard equipment on the FR and available as an option on other models
are the large fog lamps with integrated cornering light.
Attention to detail
The sophisticated design of the headlamps bears testament to
the enormous attention afforded by SEAT to the details. The edgy style
of the lamps is a hallmark feature of the new SEAT design language,
while being perfectly integrated into the Ibiza’s sculptural form. The
headlamps are available in two halogen versions or with optional
bi-xenon lamps and LED daytime running lights. The latter trace the form
of the headlamps to deliver a unique light signature, as do the
optional LED rear lights.
Clear and athletic character
From the side, the new Ibiza looks like a precisely hewn and finely
honed sculpture on wheels. The characteristic “Línea Dinámica” runs from
the headlamps over the powerfully drawn wheel arches to the rear. A
second, equally sharp character line runs across the muscular rear
shoulders to the rear lamps. These powerful lines and the interplay of
taut surfaces lend the Ibiza an athletic character – on both the
coupé-like three-door and the universal five-door. And even the
functional estate car conveys an unmatched look of dynamism – without
any restriction to its exceptional utility.
“The
new-generation Ibiza fits perfectly into the SEAT brand identity. It has
a powerful and solid stance, it displays a dynamic character and yet
always remains refined and self-confident,” says Alejandro
Mesonero-Romanos, Head of SEAT Design.
Premium interior
The emotional power of the exterior design is reflected in
the interior, too – with a forceful but extremely minimalist and clearly
structured cockpit design. The feeling of quality, the high precision
of the workmanship, the wide choice of colours and materials ranging all
the way to fine leather upholstery serve to underscore SEAT’s
standards. The level of detail can be sensed throughout the new Ibiza –
on the steering wheel, in the new design of the climatronic, in the new
paint surfaces. The focus, however, always remains on functionality –
the new instrument binnacle with its improved display is one example,
the significantly larger glove compartment, another. With a generous
storage volume of 10.7 litres, this compartment now offers space for a
lot more accessories and useful items than simply a pair of gloves.
The perfect package for every requirement
With its three body styles, the new Ibiza fits perfectly to
every lifestyle. The three-door Ibiza SC and the five-door Ibiza are not
only design masterpieces, but are also very well equipped to cope with
the practical challenges of everyday life, with an interior that is
generous for this class of vehicle, a luggage volume of 284 or 292
litres and a variable rear bench. The estate bodyshell of the Ibiza ST
offers a very high degree of functionality. Despite its sporty design,
the load volume of 430 to a maximum of 1,164 litres is surprisingly
generous. Even two bicycles will fit inside – with front wheels
disassembled, of course.
Sporty and efficient engines
The engine line-up is just as broad. The range of petrol
units extends from the economical 1.2 litre with 44 kW (60 hp) to the
immensely perky 1.4 TSI with supercharger and turbocharger. 110 kW (150
hp) and the standard-fit DSG transmission catapult the Ibiza to 100 km/h
in just 7.8 seconds, and onwards to an impressive top speed of 212
km/h. In the new Ibiza, this power unit is now also available for the ST
estate version. Particular efficiency is delivered by the Ibiza 1.2 TSI
Ecomotive – the state-of-the-art power unit with 77 kW (105 hp)
delivers refined drive with its maximum torque of 175 Newton metres at
just 1,550 r/min, yet sips on an average of just 5.1 litres/100 km –
thanks also to the start/stop technology that is fitted as standard.
Top marks in consumption and emissions
The TDI engines are even more efficient when it comes to fuel
consumption and emissions. The efficiency highlight is the Ibiza 1.2
TDI E-Ecomotive, also with a start/stop system. Its average fuel
consumption is a mere 3.4 litres, equating to a first-class CO2 figure
of 89 grams/km – in all bodyshell variants. Yet the compact hi-tech TDI
delivers attractive performance with its 55 kW (75 hp) and its very
respectable torque of 180 Newton metres. The sporty pinnacle of the
Ibiza diesel line-up is the 2.0 TDI with 105 kW (143 hp). No competitor
in this segment offers such a powerful diesel; no other masters the
combination of performance and efficiency so perfectly – a top speed of
210 km/h comes with an average fuel consumption of just 4.6 litres.
Hi-tech in drive and running gear
Just as modern as the engines in the new Ibiza are the
transmissions. Alongside perfectly spaced five and six-speed manual
gearboxes, a number of engines are offered with DSG transmissions either
as standard equipment or as an option. This dual-clutch transmission
offers not only the comfort of an automatic, but also the benefit of
compelling efficiency. The running gear of the new Ibiza boasts an
extremely sophisticated layout that has been carefully fine tuned,
giving the compact model handling characteristics that are as sporty as
they are safe. The precise steering and the perfectly tuned ESP
stability control, as well as the XDS electronic differential lock (as
of 100 hp) deliver safety even in difficult situations. A powerful brake
system with ABS is a case in point. The new Ibiza runs on wheels
ranging in size from 15 to 17 inches and sporting a new design.
Comprehensive equipment, perfect individualisation
The equipment lines of the Ibiza range have also been
revised, independent of bodyshell form. The base model Reference makes a
compelling argument with all the key comfort and safety features. Above
it is the Style version, which comes with air conditioning as standard.
The Ibiza FR sets particularly sporty accents with accentuated design
elements front and rear, alloy wheels and a leather-clad steering wheel.
And every SEAT can be adapted perfectly to suit personal style and
individual preferences with an extensive range of colours, options and
accessories.
And the Ibiza Cupra? Naturally, the
super-sporty top model in the Ibiza line-up will also have a successor.
Exceptional performance and thrilling dynamics are guaranteed, but not
before mid 2012. Labels: SEAT, SEAT Canterbury
