MINIMALISM Analyzer within MINI Connected.

MINI Connected gives drivers an even more intense experience of limitless driving fun, and allows that experience to be tailored to personal preferences and even shared with other users. Now the intelligent link-up of the driver, the MINI and the outside world has reached a new stage. The extended MINI Connected App gives Apple iPhone users access to innovative functions designed to enhance driving fun, entertainment and social networking. MINI therefore takes the lead once again in the intelligent link-up of the car with the outside world. In the future, the MINI Connected App will allow users to send posts composed on their Apple iPhone while on the move via online social networks Facebook and Twitter. With the Dynamic Music function, meanwhile, every journey in the MINI can be enjoyed to the soundtrack of specially arranged songs, whose rhythm and sound volume adjust to the driving style at any one time. Added to which, the new MINI Connected App now gives the globally unique in-car infotainment function Mission Control two different angles.

To use the MINI Connected App, owners need to specify their MINI with the MINI Visual Boost radio or MINI navigation system, plus the MINI Connected option. Functions integrated into the car via an Apple iPhone can be operated using the joystick, the steering wheel buttons or the on-board monitor. Innovative technology designed to aid the integration of the Apple iPhone into the car gives owners the option to access a wide range of updates and extended services. And the latest version of the MINI Connected App – available from the Apple App Store – allows the latest functions to be transferred into the car. All of which means that MINI Connected customers have a clear road ahead of them when it comes to accessing in-car infotainment innovations both now and into the future.

Facebook within MINI Connected.

Always in contact thanks to extended use of Facebook and Twitter.
Among the functions unique in the MINI segment are access to the Google™ local search and Google™ Send to Car services and reception of user-definable RSS news feeds, the content of which is displayed on the on-board monitor and can be read out using the optional voice output function. Added to which MINI enables the use of web-based social networks in the car. MINI Connected customers can receive Facebook and Twitter posts inside the car, display them on the on-board monitor and have them read out using the optional MINI Connected voice output function. In the same way, preformatted text messages can be sent out directly from the car using either service.

The new MINI Connected App now allows posts composed on an iPhone to be accessed inside the car. A list of the posts already stored in the iPhone can be shown on the on-board monitor during a journey. Updated vehicle data, information on the driver’s destination and the outside temperature can be added to posts and then posted on the desired network at the touch of a button.

More driving fun with Dynamic Music.
The Dynamic Music function likewise featured in the new MINI Connected App contains a selection of exclusively composed music which can be played back through the audio system of the MINI. These pieces of music adapt their rhythm and dynamic flow according to the driving style. The driver can choose from a wide variety of tracks and genres using the on-board monitor and joystick. The desired sound is then modulated according to factors including the car’s longitudinal and lateral acceleration. All of which allows MINI Connected customers to create a MINI-specific soundtrack for the hallmark MINI go-kart feeling according to their mood and driving style.

The MINI Connected App also offers customers variety unmatched in this segment when it comes to tailoring their music selection in other ways. The web radio function allows users to pick up their preferred stations, regardless of their location, while on the move in the MINI. The station database available through the application contains thousands of radio stations whose programmes can be accessed online.

Dynamic Music within MINI Connected.

Typically MINI and unique: Mission Control with new functions.
As an alternative to the web radio function, MINI Connected customers can also use an Apple iPhone to activate the Mission Control function. Another feature of the new MINI Connected App, this service offers a further innovative in-car entertainment option to make your driving fun even more varied, in keeping with the unmistakable character of the brand. Mission Control analyses numerous signals relating to the vehicle, the driving situation and the vehicle’s surroundings to provide the driver with relevant information and advice, all generated in dialogue form. These dialogues are based, among other things, on input regarding safety and comfort settings – ranging from a request that the driver and passengers buckle up their seat belts to instructions on the use of the air conditioning system – and also incorporate up-to-date information on driving conditions and the current status of the vehicle, such as the outside temperature and the amount of fuel in the tank.

The system’s extensive pool of comments ensures variety in the interaction between the MINI and its driver, even when situations on the road recur on a daily basis. And now the new MINI Connected App gives the Mission Control function’s repertoire two different angles. The range of advice can be varied by the driver as desired. Among the features supported by the Mission Control function are the use of the MINIMALISM Analyser included in MINI Connected. Once again usable in conjunction with an iPhone, this function generates visible and – thanks to Mission Control – audible alerts to give drivers tips on how to make their individual driving style even more efficient.

The on-board technology assesses a variety of vehicle data during a journey, allowing tips to be passed on to drivers while they are at the wheel to help them reduce fuel consumption. The MINIMALISM Analyser also gives MINI drivers the option of swapping information with fellow owners to draw up an efficiency ranking list. The tips generated by Mission Control to promote an extremely efficiency-focused driving style take an entertaining route to helping drivers improve their position on the MINIMALISM Ranking list.

NEW YORK, USA, April 20, 2011

“The new 2012 Jaguar range is our finest yet. Every one of our models fully embodies the brand ideals – innovation, bold design, and effortless high performance. Our designers and engineers strive continuously to keep Jaguar ahead of the competition – creating cars that stand apart from mainstream premium offerings, while remaining accessible to an ever wider spectrum of customers.”

Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director, Jaguar Cars.

The new Jaguar XF saloon, XK sports coupé and flagship Jaguar XJ all make their debut at the New York Auto Show 2011. Substantial changes and improvements across the range bring performance, refinement and economy to new levels, while fresh design enhancements strengthen the contemporary appeal of Jaguar’s latest line-up.

The 2012 model year XK builds on the car’s award-winning reputation as a high-performance sporting GT. A new range-topping variant, the XKR-S, creates a new performance flagship for Jaguar by becoming its most powerful production car ever, capable of 186mph and 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds.

Purposeful cosmetic alterations to the front and rear are made to the entire XK range, bringing its visual appeal right up to date, while further personalisation options are available to both the car’s performance and styling through a series of special order upgrade packages. New interior options will allow the discerning driver to emphasise either the luxury or performance aspects of the XK’s nature.

The XF, which has won more than 80 awards around the world for both its performance and styling, now receives bold new front and rear revisions to its appearance that bring it in line with the flagship XJ. The supercharged XFR features further uniquely dramatic design enhancements that signal the performance available in this potent range-topper.

Major technical advances include an all-new, state-of-the-art 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine in the XF, which comes with a fuel and emissions-saving Intelligent Stop/Start system for the first time in a Jaguar. This market specific version of the XF will be the most fuel-efficient vehicle in the Jaguar line-up – achieving 52.3mpg* combined and 149g/km CO2 – while retaining the performance and refinement that make it stand out as a true Jaguar sports saloon.

For the flagship Jaguar XJ luxury saloon, a suite of enhancements to the interior and options list includes a new Rear Seat Comfort package, which incorporates electric recline, lumbar adjustment and massage functions to reinforce the ultimate executive limousine experience.

These three cars are the result of a design and technology revolution at Jaguar, led by award-winning Design Director Ian Callum, the architect of the company’s future success:

“The world has been introduced to an entirely new generation of Jaguars in the past few years. With the new product range, today’s Jaguar is at full-strength for the first time. The 2012 XK, XF and XJ are design-led products that break new boundaries. We believe our cars resonate with customers on an emotional level and that’s reflected both in the way they drive and the way they look.”

The 2012 Jaguar XF

At-A-Glance

• Dramatic design changes bring the XF’s exterior into line with the XJ flagship.
• Range-topping XFR receives unique, assertive styling treatment.
• Bi-function HID xenon headlamps incorporate LED daytime running lights with a distinctive ‘J-Blade’ signature.
• Three discrete front bumper and lower rear valance treatments differentiate between variants.

• Upgraded interior with new seats, instrument panel and optional 1200W Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system.

XF Design

A saloon with the soul of a Jaguar sports car, the XF has won accolades and enthusiastic fans across the globe for its dynamic abilities and dramatic looks. Advances in lighting technology have allowed the new 2012 XF model range to adopt the bold Jaguar design language introduced on the flagship XJ saloon.

Sheetmetal revisions to the grille, bonnet and front wings incorporating new triangular side vents give the car a more muscular, purposeful appearance. The range-topping XFR receives its own unique, overtly assertive design to underline its performance potential while an alternative ‘Aerodynamic’ option is available on all other derivatives for a total of three dramatically different styling options.

The headlamps now incorporate bi-function HID xenon technology that allows them to be much slimmer and more compact while still providing outstanding beam resolution. They also incorporate LED daytime running lights arranged in a distinctive Jaguar ‘J-Blade’ signature pattern for instant recognition.

The tail lamps have been entirely renewed and now extend onto the central portion of the boot lid. These new units are now full-LED for stop, light and indicator functions and give the XF a distinctive night-time rear signature. Separating them is a revised boot lid finisher with a gloss black lower edge for a cleaner appearance. The boot also features power closure on all models.

Three new paint colours and an expanded alloy wheel selection ranging from 17 to 20-inch provide the finishing touches to the revised styling.

‘The XF has rightly been recognised as a quintessential Jaguar saloon. It is purposeful yet elegant, with inherent sporting intent in its design. For the latest version we have been able to evolve and enhance that performance character to make the XF the most visually dynamic car in its class.”

Ian Callum, Design Director, Jaguar Cars

XF Powertrain and Dynamics

It also continues the Jaguar tradition of innovation by offering a combination of technologies that anticipates automotive trends.

New four-cylinder diesel
Key among the enhancements to XF is the introduction of the 2.2-litre AJ-i4D turbodiesel engine. The unit features low-friction pistons and a water-cooled turbocharger to increase efficiency plus active engine mounts and modifications to the sump and block to reduce NVH levels. The result is not only Jaguar’s most fuel-efficient engine ever, but one which offers levels of refinement on a par with the previously-fitted 2.7-litre V6 diesel and all the performance expected of a Jaguar sports saloon. Further refinement is assured on all models by the use of additional acoustic shielding and the use of computational fluid dynamics to smooth exterior airflow.

Power output is 190PS with an impressive torque figure of 450Nm to provide the muscular performance expected of a Jaguar. Reaching 60mph in 8.0 seconds, the car will go on to achieve a top speed of 140mph. Nevertheless the unit still manages 52.3mpg on the EU combined cycle – making it the most economical Jaguar ever – and emits just 149g/km of CO2 and is Euro Stage V compliant.

New 8-speed automatic
The engine is perfectly complemented by the all-new 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox. Specifically adapted by our engineers for its first-time application in a Jaguar, the transmission offers a host of benefits including both improved acceleration and economy. Gearchanges are completed in just 200 milliseconds – four times faster than the average human resting heartbeat – while driver control is enhanced by the ability to perform multiple downshifts using the paddleshift technology. The use of lightweight materials ensures the overall weight remains the same as the previous six-speed transmission, while improved pump design and gear control elements increase efficiency. Standard on all XF diesel models, it reduces the CO2 emissions of the 3.0-litre V6 to 169g/km and improves fuel consumption to 44.8mpg.

Intelligent Stop/Start
Also making its debut with the 2.2-litre diesel engine is Jaguar’s new Intelligent Stop/Start system, the first time this technology has been seen in a premium diesel saloon. This automatically shuts down the engine in just 300 milliseconds when the car comes to rest, in order to improve fuel economy and CO2 emissions by between five and seven percent.

No driver intervention is necessary, with the engine management software analysing a host of complex factors in order to decide when the engine can safely be stopped. A Tandem Solenoid Starter with a dedicated secondary battery instantly restarts the engine as soon as the driver’s foot leaves the brake pedal, ensuring it is running optimally by the time the accelerator is pressed. In order to facilitate this process, the gearbox features Hydraulic Impulse Storage, which supplies oil pressure to actuate the shift elements.

For the first time, all diesel variants are also available with Jaguar’s Adaptive Dynamics system, allowing the enthusiastic driver to enjoy the car’s outstanding chassis control and discover the XF’s sporting soul.

XF Interior

Whether experienced from the driver or passenger seat, the cabin of the XF is a uniquely welcoming and stylish place in which to spend time, using high-end materials in a truly contemporary manner.

Continuing to feature such dramatic ‘surprise and delight’ elements as the JaguarDrive Selector that rises from the centre console and air vents that rotate to their open position when the starter button is pressed, the XF interior has also received a comprehensive update.

New seats and instruments
Revised front and rear seats incorporate a ‘hoop’ feature on both squab and backrest that improves not only their appearance but also the support it offers by increasing the seat’s profile. New hide colour combinations, veneers and headlining choices increase the personalisation options available to buyers. All models benefit from a revision to the colour scheme on the centre console, fascia and steering wheel where the ‘Tungsten’ finish is replaced by a more contemporary ‘Aurora’ theme.

The XF incorporates a formidable amount of technology but in true Jaguar fashion it is integrated seamlessly into the function of the car and controlled through a central seven-inch Touch-screen with a new polarising filter for better contrast viewing.

In order to reduce driver workload, additional switches have been added below the Touch-screen to instantly switch between different functions while new graphics are based on those in Jaguar’s flagship XJ. The main driver instrument cluster is now a full-colour TFT unit for greater resolution and clarity.

Cutting-edge technology
Three new audio systems are offered on the XF, all of which represent a significant upgrade on those previously available. Heading this up is a 1200W, 17-speaker premium set-up, from British audio experts Bowers & Wilkins, which offers concert hall-like sound reproduction.

All audio systems can be specified with a hard-drive based satellite navigation system that incorporates a ‘virtual’ CD multichanger allowing the owner to ‘rip’ 10 CDs at a time into the car’s memory storage and play them as if they were a physical music medium. The system also now offers a number of different options for connecting MP3 players; two USB ports, one of which is iPod specific and Bluetooth connectivity that allows music to be streamed from a smartphone.

The majority of the car’s functions can also be controlled from the driver’s seat by Jaguar’s Interactive Voice functionality, which provides an intuitive interface for safe, hands-free operation.

The 2012 Jaguar XK

At-A-Glance

• Dramatic front and rear styling gives the XK a dynamic new appearance.
• New intelligent LED technology incorporated into slimmer headlamps.
• New XKR-S model is the ultimate expression of Jaguar’s GT duality: intelligent performance with everyday drivability.
• XKR-S achieves 186mph (300km/h), 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds and emits fewer than 300g/km of CO2.
• Strong, lightweight advanced aluminium body architecture to maximise performance, agility and economy.
• Revised interior enhances the contemporary luxury feel of the XK’s cabin.
• Performance sports seat option offers 16-way adjustability, heating, cooling and memory functions.
• New XKR Dynamic Pack for enhanced driving characteristics.
• Expanded range of option packages allow a greater degree of personalisation.
• New paint colours pay homage to Jaguar’s racing heritage.

XK Design

The XK was the first car created entirely under the aegis of Design Director Ian Callum. Dramatic and purposeful, yet as sensuous as only a Jaguar can be, the XK now receives a number of revisions that reinforce its contemporary, assertive character.

The latest lighting technology has allowed the front headlamps to be made slimmer and at the same time incorporate LED signal functions and running lights. Combined with a larger grille and new bumper design, this gives the XK instant ‘rear-view mirror’ recognition. Unmistakably a Jaguar, each model in the range gains unique styling attributes that distinguish it from its siblings. Chrome mesh grilles on the XK are replaced with matt black detailing on the XKR while the flagship XKR-S receives a unique front bumper underlining its sense of purpose.

The power vent along the front wing has been altered from a vertical to horizontal design with a mesh insert. Emblazoned with the Jaguar name, it serves to emphasise the potential inherent in the XK’s design. To the rear, the boot lid has been revised with a slimmer chrome finisher which allows the car to be graced by the famous Jaguar ‘leaper’, bringing it into line with the rest of the company’s products.

Complementing the design changes are 17 paint colours, five of which are new and a range of alloy wheels that now total 11 different designs ranging in size from 18 to 20 inches. A further opportunity for owners to express their individuality is available through the ‘Black Pack’, now also available as an option on the naturally aspirated cars as well as the XKR. This replaces exterior chrome with a matt black finish, complemented by 20-inch gloss black alloy wheels. On the XKR, the package also includes body coloured aerodynamic enhancements and optional side graphics.

XK Powertrain and Dynamics

Jaguar sports cars have a reputation for blending athletic high-performance with effortless cruising comfort. Nothing exemplifies this dual character more clearly than the XK’s 5.0-litre AJ-V8 engine.

Now in its third generation this offers not only tremendous power but also great efficiency by incorporating the very latest technology including spray-guided direct injection (SGDI) and dual independent variable cam timing (DIVCT). Like the car itself, the engine is constructed from high-grade, lightweight aluminium, which in the cylinder heads is recycled to reduce the environmental impact of manufacture.

New 186mph XKR-S
Available in both naturally aspirated and supercharged forms from the beginning, the engine is now offered in a third variant in the XKR-S. Based on the supercharged unit in the XKR, revised fuel mapping and an active exhaust have boosted power and torque to 550PS and 680Nm respectively, creating the most powerful Jaguar road car ever. This allows the car to reach 60mph in just 4.2 seconds and join the exclusive ‘300km/h’ club with a limited top speed of 186mph. Not only extremely powerful but also efficient, the XKR-S emits just 292g/km of CO2.

All variants of the XK use the six-speed ZF automatic gearbox with steering wheel-mounted paddles to control the Jaguar Sequential Shift function for greater driver control. In the XKR-S the transmission has been revised in line with the increased power and torque to optimise upshifts and allow for the increased top speed.

The XK’s exhilarating driving dynamics are the result of the latest generation of Jaguar’s Adaptive Dynamics technology that provides a continuous and seamlessly variable damping strategy to negate the traditional trade-off between ride comfort and handling.

Luxury and performance duality
Adaptive Dynamics performs three main functions; controlling vertical body movement, roll and pitch rates. One hundred times every second, Adaptive Dynamics analyses the thousands of inputs and variables which determine ride and handling characteristics. By also monitoring wheel position 500 times every second, the system is able to achieve the famous Jaguar duality between comfort and sporting appeal. Should the driver wish to alter these characteristics, there is the option of Dynamic Mode, which increases body control, sharpens throttle response and reduces gearshift times.

The two supercharged variants of the XK also benefit from Jaguar’s Active Differential Control technology. This uses a multiplate clutch to vector torque to the driven wheel with the most grip. Allied to the ABS and stability control, this allows for the ultimate in traction and precision both mid-corner and at its exit. Non-supercharged models use a mechanical differential, which delivers outstanding levels of grip and stability under power.

All models benefit from the Dynamic Stability Control system which offers four modes: normal, Winter, TracDSC and DSC Off, allowing the enthusiastic driver to choose the level of intervention dependent on road conditions.

The XKR-S model enhances both these electronic systems and the inherent stiffness of the lightweight aluminium architecture to create the most dynamic and exciting Jaguar yet.

Uprated suspension
The double wishbone front suspension has been comprehensively revised with a new fully-machined steering knuckle. This significantly increases camber and castor stiffness by 0.13 degrees per kilonewton to transform the accuracy and weighting of the steering for greater levels of connection, feedback and precision. Rear suspension geometry has been revised with rear wheel steer optimised for maximum agility while spring rates have been increased at both ends of the car by 28 percent.

The Active Differential has been programmed to reduce steering sensitivity at the very high speeds of which the car is capable, increasing stability and driver control. Bespoke software for Jaguar’s Adaptive Damping has been written for the XKR-S, ensuring both total body control and maximum traction and grip. Changes to the TracDSC mode alters intervention levels to allow the experienced driver to explore the outer edges of the performance envelope, rewarded by the motorsport inspired soundtrack from the exhaust, which features an active pneumatic valve.

The suspension changes and Performance exhaust system are available as part of the Dynamic Pack option for the XKR model.

“The XKR-S encompasses everything a performance Jaguar should be; as capable, precise and thrilling on your drive home as it is at the Nürburgring. Every response delay has been minimised in order to give the car a more connected feel in the manner in which it steers, handles, stops and goes.”

Mike Cross, Chief Engineer, Vehicle Integrity

XK Interior

The dual nature of the XK is apparent from the moment the driver enters the cabin. Luxurious and cocooning, the sporting potential is apparent from the moment the Start button pulses red. Pressing it fires the engine into life with a deep, musical reverberation and the Jaguar DriveSelector rises from the centre console as a point of first contact to begin the process of bonding man with machine.

In the latest XK, the cabin has been refreshed with a host of new trim materials including ebony soft-feel paint for the switches, gloss black finish to the centre console and phosphor blue halo illumination and ambient lighting. New veneers, colour combinations and headlining options allow owners to create a cabin ambience precisely matching their requirements.

A new leather-wrapped, multi-function steering wheel has also been added, providing a tactile interface between car and driver, complemented on the XKR-S by ‘Jaguar’ embossed stainless steel pedals, which are optional on other models.

New performance interiors
Standard on the XKR-S and optional on the XKR and XK Portfolio models are the new Performance front seats. Featuring integrated head restraints and increased lateral and squab support, the new seats hold driver and passenger securely and comfortably in place. The 16-way adjustment of squab, cushion, lumbar and bolster elements is supplemented by memory and heating functions. Unique to the XKR-S is a Carbon patterned and soft-grain leather interior with contrasting micro-piping and stitching. The Jet Poltrona Frau Italian leather headlining that is standard on the XKR-S is offered as an option on other models.

The central seven-inch Touch-screen provides an intuitive interface for the extensive technology that is seamlessly incorporated into the XK, including iPod and USB connectivity and satellite navigation with DVD mapping. The central screen also projects the image from the new reverse parking camera.

The 2012 Jaguar XJ

At-A-Glance

• Pioneering lightweight aluminium construction delivers superior agility and economy
• Bold, beautiful styling re-energises the Jaguar design language.
• The existing range of powerful, efficient powerplants is supplemented by Jaguar’s 3.0-litre petrol V6 engine (market specific).
• Available in both standard and long-wheelbase versions, the latter providing even more luxurious accommodation for passengers.
• New Rear Seat Comfort package is available on both wheelbase variants and includes electric recline, lumbar adjustment and massage functions.

• New Executive Package helps allow the long-wheelbase derivative to function more effectively as a mobile business centre.
• Optional Illumination Package offers the ambient lighting effects previously only available on the range-topping Supersport variant.
• New interior colour combinations have been added by customer request.

The original XJ was the last car designed by Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons and the latest car to wear the nameplate is as innovative, beautiful and desirable as its famous forebear.

Revolutionary, not evolutionary, the XJ is truly a product of the 21st century and is the clearest indication yet of the singular sense of purpose behind Design Director Ian Callum’s vision for the future of Jaguar.

The unique full-length panoramic glass roof that floods the cabin with natural light allows the XJ to offer an unrivalled sense of spaciousness and occasion for driver and passengers and at the same time retain the sleek coupé-like profile and lithe stance for which Jaguars are famous.

Lightweight aluminium architecture
The mould- breaking styling is matched by similarly impressive construction techniques pioneered by Jaguar. The lightweight aluminium structure – 50 percent of which is made from recycled materials – offers improved fuel consumption and reduced emissions. In conjunction with a lifecycle approach to design and manufacture this allows the XJ to minimise its carbon footprint.

The weight saved by the use of aluminium – an average of 150kg compared to its rivals – also has benefits for performance and agility and is complemented by the most advanced, powerful and efficient Jaguar powertrains ever. The choice of engines has been enlarged for the 2012 range with the fitment of a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine (market specific). All engines are coupled to a shift-by-wire, six-speed automatic transmission controlled by the JaguarDrive Selector or steering wheel-mounted paddles.

Contemporary cabin
The cabin of the XJ blends elegant, contemporary design with the comfort, luxury and unmistakable sporting style of a Jaguar. Chrome and piano black detailing provides an eye-catching contrast to the beautifully-crafted leather and wood veneer surfaces. Both standard and long-wheelbase models are available, for an even more sumptuous and refined experience for rear seat passengers.

Advanced new technology has allowed Jaguar’s interior designers to create an environment more akin to a state-of-the-art living space than a car cabin. Stunning 12.3-inch high-definition virtual instruments complement an innovative Dual-view 8-inch Touch-screen that allows the passenger to view DVD movies or TV programmes while the driver is provided with vehicle functions or satellite-navigation directions.

Premium surround sound options include the top-of-the-range 1200W Bowers & Wilkins system that is comparable in audio quality to the best in-home entertainment. Advanced infotainment features also include hard-drive based audio and navigation systems and comprehensive connectivity for portable audio and video devices via the powerful Media Hub.

2012 enhancements
Subtle enhancements to the cabin are now available for the 2012 XJ range to allow greater personalisation and flexibility of use. A new Rear Comfort Pack offers seats that now feature electric adjustment of the backrest recline angle, four-way lumbar support and a massage function. Increased comfort is also provided by new winged headrests, footrests and the ability for the front passenger seat to be stowed away forwards when unoccupied to increase legroom even further.

On the long-wheelbase Portfolio derivative a new ‘Executive Pack’ transforms the rear of the XJ into a high-speed mobile office space with the provision of fold-down laptop trays and an electric rear sunblind for increased privacy. The package also includes upgraded carpeting, combination wood and leather steering wheel, gloss wood veneer choices and chrome mirror housings.

Jaguar has always listened closely to customer feedback and in the case of the XJ, this has led to a new interior colour combination. Available with the Premium Luxury and Portfolio trim levels the Jet/Ivory option features ivory seating with contrast jet stitching, piping and upper surfaces while the headlining is available in either colour, according to customer preference.

All XJ variants are now available with an Illumination Package derived from that offered as standard on the Supersport model. This comprises illuminated treadplates, boot latch and front and rear air vents.

“An XJ should be the ultimate in comfort, design and refinement. The bespoke interior changes we have incorporated for the 2012 model make it an even more special car to drive or be driven in.”

F1 driver Alguersuari entertains guests at the SEAT Lounge
Company’s first Shanghai Motor Show press day ends with Mediterranean hospitality

To celebrate the end of SEAT’s first ever press day at the Shanghai Motor Show, Jaime Alguersuari, current Formula One driver for the Scuderia Toro Rosso team, demonstrated that as well as racing in the world’s most demanding race series, he can also entertain people with his talents as a DJ.

Jaime is a SEAT Brand Ambassador, as he embodies the spirit of the company, being a young-spirited, dynamic and creative. In fact, when he’s not piloting his F1 car around the world’s race circuits, he spends his spare time in his Barcelona studio creating music.

The assembled guests enjoyed Jaime’s talents, demonstrating the company’s warm Spanish hospitality.

James Muir, SEAT President, used the SEAT Lounge gathering to informally explain to guests SEAT’s philosophy and values.

Speaking about the Brand, James Muir said: “SEAT is a Brand which is in an enviable position. On the one hand, our products capture the spirit of Barcelona, our home city. Our cars are conceived for young-minded people looking for striking design and dynamic driving performance. But SEAT customers also demand state-of-the-art engineering and technology, which we can deliver thanks to the Company’s position with the VW Group.”

He continued: “We work to find the perfect balance between meeting the emotional desires of our customers and the rational needs. SEAT cars must deliver a rewarding and dynamic driving experience – but at the same time, our range in Europe is one of the most eco-friendly available. This is one example of the Brand’s philosophy. We have one word for this philosophy: Enjoyneering.”

SEAT’s President was speaking at the end of the day where he announced that the Brand would launch in the Chinese market from 2012 with the LEON and IBIZA models as part of a strategy of global expansion.

SEAT is the only company in its sector with the full-range capacity to design, develop, manufacture and market cars in Spain. A member of the Volkswagen Group, the multinational has its headquarters in Martorell (Barcelona), exporting approximately 75% of its production to 72 countries. SEAT is market leader in Spain, and in 2010 reached a trade volume amounting to 4.7 billion euros, with total sales of 339,500 vehicles.

SEAT Group employs 13,000 professionals at its three production centres in Barcelona - Zona Franca, El Prat de Llobregat and Martorell, where it manufactures the highly successful Ibiza and Leon, amongst other models. A fourth centre, the Volkswagen Group production facility at Palmela in Portugal, supplies the Alhambra.

The Spanish multinational also has a Centre of Excellence or ‘knowledge hub’, bringing together more than 900 engineers whose remit is to be the driving force behind innovation for the number one industrial investor in R&D+i in Spain. In line with its declared commitment to environmental protection, SEAT undertakes and bases its core activity on criteria of sustainability, namely reduction of CO2 emissions, energy efficiency, as well as recycling and re-use of resources.

JAZZ Practicality Challenge

THE WINNER OF THE JAZZ PRACTICALITY CHALLENGE IS...

Robert and Nicky Marshall, from the Midland Group of Motoring Writers, have been crowned Honda's Ultimate Jazz Practicality Challenge Champions after taking a speedy 13.7 seconds to fill the Jazz Hybrid's boot with an array of gardening equipment.

Members of the Western, Southern, Midland and Northern motoring writers groups attending the regional Jazz launches were up against the clock as they filled the Jazz’s boot with gardening tools, including a wheel barrow and garden gnome, to show off the car’s practicality.

The quickest from each group won a garden centre gift voucher and automatically went into the running for the Ultimate Jazz Practicality Challenge Champion title and prize of a new self-propelled Honda Izy lawnmower.

Competition was fierce and the results were close but Robert’s speedy time of 13.7 seconds proved hard to beat.

Commenting on the win, Robert Marshall said; “As the Jazz features a wide rear aperture and an ingenious rear seat folding facility, the backs of which provide a flat base that is level with the boot floor, we piled most items into a wheelbarrow and lifted that into the boot, to achieve our winning time, without damaging either the car or its cargo.”

Top 3 Results table
Place Team Group Time
1st Robert Marshall Midland Group of Motoring Writers 13.7
2nd Paul Harris Southern Group of Motoring Writers 13.8
3rd Alyson Marlow Western Group of Motoring Writers 15.1

High-Performance Honda CR-Z

MUGEN EURO to build high-performance Honda CR-Z

MUGEN Euro is developing a highly-tuned version of Honda’s CR-Z, which will deliver “Type R-like” performance from the hybrid’s petrol-electric powertrain – and may offer even better fuel economy.

This faster, more powerful car will make its world debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.

The CR-Z MUGEN will feature enhancements to both the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine and the Honda IMA system to boost power and torque, while bespoke brakes and suspension will be fitted to improve the chassis dynamics.

The major engine changes, and those made to exhaust and induction, may even result in greater mpg and lower CO2 emissions during some conditions. However, at this early development stage, final power, torque and fuel economy figures are not yet known.

Lightweight components, including a carbon fibre bonnet, will be employed to lower the overall weight, and the car will use MUGEN alloy wheels to reduce unsprung mass.

To improve aerodynamics and give the car an even more sporting look, MUGEN body parts will be added, including front and rear bumpers, and a spoiler.

“We wanted to extend the performance of the CR-Z,” says Hiro Toyoda of MUGEN Euro. “It is already a fun car to drive, with an excellent chassis, but we thought that with more power and enhanced torque delivery it could be even more exciting. However, as with all MUGEN projects, we have stayed true to the Honda design and philosophy, and the electric motor is still a vital ingredient to boost performance and economy.”

The CR-Z MUGEN is a joint project between Honda (UK) and MUGEN Euro – the Northampton-based subsidiary of Honda’s long standing tuning partner MUGEN. In 2009, MUGEN Euro produced the Civic Type R MUGEN, an extreme, 240PS version of Honda popular hot hatch.

“This will be one quick hybrid,” says Martin Moll, Head of Marketing for Honda (UK). “With more torque, more power and MUGEN’s experience of working with Honda cars, we’re expecting great things. It promises to show how hybrid cars can be even more exciting to drive.”

At this stage, the CR-Z MUGEN is being developed purely as a one-off prototype, with no plans for a production version.

Goodwood Festival of Speed

Jaguar at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2011

The 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed will see Jaguar take centre stage with a dramatic sculpture being commissioned for the lawn in front of Goodwood House. Enthusiasts will be able to view an array of Jaguars from the past, present and a little way into the future with the XK120, and examples of the C-, D- and, of course, E-type taking part in demonstration runs in front of the crowds.

Present at the Festival (1-3 July) the new XKR-S will take on the notorious Goodwood Hill.

The fastest Jaguar in a generation, the XKR-S is capable of accelerating from rest to 100 mph in just 8.7-seconds before reaching a top speed of 186 mph. With substantially revised suspension architecture, new springs and dampers as well as revisions to the electronic systems controlling the Dynamic Stability Control and Active Differential, the XKR-S has the composure and traction to harness the extra power. Mike Cross, Chief Engineer, Vehicle Integrity, will be at the wheel to demonstrate the abilities of the car.

The Festival will start on Thursday 30 June with the Moving Motor Show – a chance for visitors to experience the latest Jaguar road cars and even get behind the wheel and take on the Goodwood Hill. For more information on the event and to purchase tickets please click here.

SEAT celebrates

SEAT celebrates its best-ever March
  • Record number of new SEATs sold in a single month in the UK
  • Record market share for March
  • Record market share for the first quarter
SEAT is celebrating a cluster of impressive sales records – including its best March ever in the UK – as British buyers turn in their droves to the value, quality and sporting style of the Spanish car maker’s models.

With the numbers officially crunched by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) SEAT is celebrating not only its best-ever March in absolute terms, but also record market shares for both the crucial month of March and the entire first quarter of 2011.
The impressive performance saw SEAT register a record 7,251 new cars last month for a market share of 1.98 per cent (source: SMMT).

That’s an increase of 865 cars on the same month last year, and comes without the support of the Government’s scrappage scheme which was shoring up sales in March 2010.

Market share has leapt from 1.61 per cent 12 months ago to a whopping 1.98 per cent last month – an impressive increase of 13.55 per cent which looks all the more notable when set against the backdrop of a March market down almost eight per cent.

Meanwhile SEAT’s performance so far this year – 10,471 sales versus 9,582 for the corresponding period 12 months ago – shows that these exceptional March sales are no flash in the pan. In fact the Brand’s year-to-date market share (1.88 per cent) is another all-time record in the UK.

Dig a little deeper into the numbers and SEAT’s sales successes so far this year become even more impressive. Retail sales – still comfortably the bulk of SEAT’s business in the UK – are up by no less than 50 per cent in March versus March 2010, and that in a retail market as a whole which was down by more than 14 per cent.

Similarly, in the year so far SEAT’s retail sales have soared by more than 35 per cent versus the first three months of 2010. The retail market as a whole is down by 16.5 per cent year-to-date.

SEAT’s soaring sales stand comparison with many of the UK motor industry’s established mass market names, too. So far this year the firm’s total registrations are up by 9.28 per cent while many others have seen their sales for the year to date go into reverse.

Peter Wyhinny, managing director of SEAT UK, is understandably elated with the sales successes. He said: “It’ll probably come as no surprise to learn that I’m extremely pleased with these numbers!

SEAT’s performance in the key month of March, and throughout the first quarter of 2011, has been exceptional.

“Our fresh, exciting and comprehensive portfolio of products – from sporty Ibiza through sleek Leon and luxurious Exeo to the multi award-winning new Alhambra – is clearly appealing to new car buyers like never before.

“The success of our vibrant young range of cars, linked to our strong and growing network of dealers and consistently impressive residual values, sees us building an increasing presence on the UK’s roads.

“With a strong order bank underpinning this growth that matches the position of 12 months ago but has been achieved without the support of scrappage, I think it’s fair to say that we can look forward to a suitably sunny outlook for the months ahead, too.”

Budget puts Ibiza at the top

Budget puts Ibiza at the top of company car lists

Chancellor George Osborne's Budget has put SEAT's super-frugal line-up of Ibiza E Ecomotive models in pole position for fleet and business drivers looking to keep a lid on their company car tax and running costs.

Company car tax – referred to as benefit in kind (BIK) – is based on a percentage of the vehicle's recommended retail price, the type of fuel it uses, the amount of CO2 it emits and the driver's salary level.

Before the Chancellor's speech, petrol-engined cars emitting between 99 g/km and 120 g/km fell into the lowest BIK bracket for conventional-engined vehicles and were taxed at ten per cent. Low-emitting diesels like the Ibiza, meanwhile, were taxed at 13 per cent because of the three per cent diesel surcharge.

However the Chancellor's decision to tighten the lower limit for low-carbon vehicles from April 2013 reduces that bottom BIK threshold to 94 g/km or below.

Fortunately for latest generation Ibiza E Ecomotive drivers, or prospective purchasers, their cars will still qualify for the very lowest diesel BIK rate of 13 per cent thanks to CO2 emissions of as little as 92 g/km.

Ally this to the fact that Ibiza E Ecomotives – available in sporty SC, practical 5dr and capacious ST estate bodystyles – are capable of more than 80 mpg on the official combined cycle and it's plain to see why more and more fleet and business managers and drivers are opting for one of these stylish SEATs.

SEAT UK Head of Fleet & Business Sales, Nick Andrews, explained: “The Ibiza E Ecomotive range is proving increasingly attractive to a wide variety of our customers with, in particular, the ST version making great inroads thanks to its practicality and style.

“The revisions to company car tax arrangements announced by the Chancellor this week will only serve to strengthen the Ibiza's case with business customers who, understandably, are watching every penny at the moment.”

The third generation 'green' Ibiza, now badged E Ecomotive to reflect its super-frugal performance, achieves exceptional CO2 emissions of just 92 g/km, and is capable of fuel consumption of 80.7 mpg (combined).

The impressive figures are, in part, the result of painstaking work carried out on the 1.2-litre common-rail TDI 75 PS engine which, as usual, boasts a diesel particulate filter (DPF) as standard. Other important additions to the latest generation Ecomotive include, for the first time on an Ibiza, the use of Start/Stop technology and Brake Energy Recovery.

Optimised aerodynamics, weight reduction and changes to the engine management have given rise to one of the cleanest cars on the market.

Available in 5dr, SC and ST bodystyles the cars are not only exempt from UK road tax (VED) but, as a result of changes announced at the start of this year, are also eligible for free entry to London's revised Congestion Charge zone.

The Ibiza E Ecomotive models form part of a growing selection of SEAT Ecomotive and E Ecomotive cars that also takes in versions of the Leon, Altea, Altea XL and Alhambra. Prices start at £13,490 RRP for the Ibiza SC S A/C E Ecomotive.

Land Rover has today announced that new Range Rover Evoque prices in the UK will start from £27,955 for an eD4 Pure 5-door 6 Speed manual 2WD model. The 4WD equivalent is priced at £28,705.

With a choice of three engines, two body styles, three design themes and a wide range of options and accessories, the new Range Rover Evoque offers customers significant choice across a range of price points. The top-of-the-range Si4 6 Speed automatic Dynamic coupé with LUX pack is available for £44,320.

The Range Rover Evoque will be offered in both 5-door and Coupé forms and will go on-sale from September 2011. A smooth and refined powertrain line-up is available with a choice of state-of-the-art diesel or petrol engines.

The updated 2.2-litre turbodiesel has 150PS or 190PS derivatives. The 2WD (on-sale early 2012) Coupé version combined with the 150 PS 2.2-litre engine is set to achieve sub 130g/km CO2*.

The new 240PS 2.0-litre Si4 petrol engine combines direct fuel injection, turbocharging and twin variable valve timing for exceptional driveability and fuel-efficiency and delivers 0-60mph in 7.1 seconds*.

In place of a traditional trim hierarchy, customers can choose from three distinct design themes, which include many features as standard. A wide range of personalisation opportunities are also available, allowing customers to fully tailor the Evoque to individual tastes and requirements.

Options available include 12 exterior colours, three contrasting roof treatments, seven alloy wheel designs, 16 contrasting interiors and a full sized, fixed, panoramic glass roof. A new online configurator goes live today, making it simple for customers to create their perfect Range Rover Evoque.

Body Styles
The Range Rover Evoque is available in two body styles – a Coupé and 5-door. The Coupé provides two individual rear seats, with the option of three-seat bench if preferred. The Evoque 5-door extends the appeal of the model even further by offering greater practicality and family appeal. The roofline stands 30mm higher than the Coupé, which delivers extra head and shoulder room for rear seat passengers.

Powertrains
The Range Rover Evoque is available with a choice of powertrains, both petrol and diesel with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, and, for the first time in a Range Rover, the option of 2WD (front wheel drive) as well as 4WD.

The engine, transmission, drive and design theme combinations available are as follows:
  •  eD4 diesel 150hp 6-speed manual 2WD (Pure and Prestige) - available from 2012
  • TD4 diesel 150hp 6-speed manual 4WD (Pure, Prestige)
  • SD4 diesel 190hp 6-speed manual 4WD (Pure, Prestige, Dynamic)
  • SD4 diesel 190bhp 6-speed automatic 4WD (Pure, Prestige, Dynamic)
  • Si4 petrol 240hp 6-speed automatic 4WD (Dynamic)
Design themes
In place of the conventional equipment grade hierarchy, three defining design themes have been developed for the Evoque: Pure, with a contemporary feel; Prestige, which majors on luxury and Dynamic, which embraces a bold and sporting character.

Each theme has a distinct appeal in terms of exterior styling, interior appointments and equipment specifications, which offer the highest level of on-board comfort, entertainment, communications and convenience.

Pure
Evoque Pure is the purest expression of the original LRX concept. On the outside it is distinguished by the high-gloss black detailing across the tailgate and along the waistline, with a dark 'Atlas' finish to the grille and eye-catching side fender blades and, on the Coupé, bonnet louvres. As standard, Pure models come with 18-inch Sparkle Silver alloy wheels.

Inside, the seats are finished in grain leather, and satin brushed aluminium is used for the centre console trim. Highlights of the standard equipment on board include heated front seats, an 8-inch high-resolution touch screen display, climate control air conditioning, an 11-speaker Meridian audio system with subwoofer, push-button start, BluetoothTM for mobile phone connection and audio streaming, twin USB ports, which support portable audio connectivity and cruise control.

The handling and safety systems include Hill Launch Assist, rear parking sensors and, on 4WD versions, Terrain ResponseTM to set up the vehicle for different off-road environments, and Hill Descent Control.

Prestige
Luxury informs every element of the Evoque Prestige models, from the exterior bright 'Atlas' detailing and 19-inch Diamond Turned alloy wheels, to the fine Oxford full leather interior in a selection of warm and inviting colour schemes with real wood finishers, tailored carpet mats and chrome tread plates. Metallic paint is also provided as standard and Prestige models benefit from xenon headlamps with signature LED lighting and front fog lamps.

Similarly, the equipment specification delivers the highest quality features, with an HDD satellite navigation system with dynamic route guidance and voice control option. It also displays 4WD performance information and provides an audio server for storing uncompressed digital music files. There is also a rear camera, front parking sensors and automatic headlamps and windscreen wipers.

Dynamic
The Dynamic theme adds a real sporting presence to Evoque with the addition of deeper body colour sills and bumpers, and black-finished mirrors, grille and side fender blades that are all exclusive to the design theme. Add the 20-inch Sparkle Silver alloys to the mix and there is no mistaking that the Evoque Dynamic means business.

Inside the cabin detailed touches reinforce the theme with aluminium pedal covers, a textured metal finish to the centre console and perforated leather around the steering wheel and (manual) gearshift. The striking exterior of the Dynamic is complemented by a range of bold interior colour schemes.

Dynamic models also come with Adaptive Dynamics featuring MagnaRideTM as standard for and an even sharper ride and handling. Adaptive Dynamics is also available as an option for Prestige SD4 models at a cost of £1150.

Pure with TECH Pack
Many of the key technology features available in the range have been brought together in a TECH Pack to enhance the Pure theme even further. The pack includes the following additional features:
  • HDD premium navigation system
  • Front parking aid
  • Heated windscreen and windscreen washers
  • Automatic headlamps
  • Headlamp power-wash
  • Rain-sensing windscreen wipers
Opting for the TECH Pack represents excellent value, adding just £1,900 to the standard Pure prices.

Prestige and Dynamic with LUX Pack
The LUX Pack for Prestige and Dynamic models is also available and offers greater convenience, on-board entertainment and safety. It introduces the following items:
  • Powered tailgate and panoramic glass roof with power blinds
  • 825W Meridian surround sound audio system
  • 8-inch high-resolution dual-view touch-screen display
  • Analogue/digital television
  • Auto-dimming rear view mirror
  • Surround camera system with tow assist
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Keyless entry
  • 'Park Assist' system
  • Advanced climate control with air filtration, air quality sensor and automatic recirculation
The LUX Pack for Prestige and Dynamic models costs an extra £4,325.

Honda Racing Team

HONDA RACING TEAM BTCC RACE REPORT - ROUNDS 1-3, BRANDS HATCH

The Honda Racing Team opened its 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship attack with a stirring victory at Brands Hatch on Sunday.

Matt Neal had a great start and qualified fastest for the opening race of the season but his lead was short lived when he was punted out by a rival, who was later penalised, on the first lap. However, Neal bounced back to show the new 2-litre turbocharged Civic’s potential with a lights-to-flag victory in the final round of the weekend. His victory was allied to a fighting seventh position in the second race.

Neal, who is fifth in the points after Brands Hatch, explained: “We’ve got to be pleased with what we’ve achieved this weekend but it could have been even more if I hadn’t have been knocked off the road in the opening race. Despite that, the performance has given me confidence. The potential in the car and the speed it’s shown straight out of the box has made me really optimistic.

“When the car is in clear air, we are very fast and it’s a strong car in qualifying,” added the former double champion. “We have christened the new engine and it’s performed perfectly first time out, which is a testament to the effort we’ve all put in. We aren’t going to stand still now and we will work harder than ever to stay at the front.”

One of the most remarkable stories of the weekend was Gordon Shedden. The Fife ace had a 130mph accident during practice on Saturday when a tyre failed but heroic work by the Honda Racing mechanics meant the machine was repaired in time for race day. Despite starting at the back of the pack, Flash scorched through the pack to record a sixth place finish in the opening round. In race two, he vaulted to second place to give the Honda Racing Team its first podium of the season.

“I’m proud of the whole team this weekend because what they did was nothing short of a miracle,” explained the 32-year-old. “My car was in bits after the incident in qualifying and the guys pulled out all the stops to put it back together. Everyone’s gone above and beyond the call of duty to give me a car to race in. What is incredible is that I didn’t only have a car to race, I had a quick car and I managed to score a podium.”

Following his remarkable second place, Shedden backed that up with a fighting fourth place in race three. His points tally means he’s fourth in the overall standings and, like Neal, he is full of enthusiasm for the season ahead.

“The car has got huge potential,” he added. “We have the positives of the turbocharged engine and we will learn more about the handling. We were hopeful, but we didn’t know what to expect until these opening rounds were finished. The Honda has performed better than we could have hoped for and we will move on to Donington Park with a lot of confidence.”

The second meeting of the British Touring Car Championship season takes place at Donington Park on April 16/17.
