Best Concept Car Award

Barretts SEAT News
News from the SEAT dealers in Canterbury, Kent

The SEAT IBE received the « RTL – Auto Plus Award »
The “best concept-car  award” of the Paris Motor Show organized by RTL and Auto Plus was given to the SEAT IBE.

Within the framework of the Paris Motorshow 2010, RTL, in partnership with the magazine Auto Plus, conducted a poll to reward the most beautiful cars exhibited at the fair. Three categories were in the running: the best production car, the best green car and the best concept-car. For each of them, ten cars were selected by the journalists of RTL and Auto Plus and subjected to the votes of their listeners and readers.

After two weeks of voting, these three awards were given to the winners by Christopher Baldelli, President of the RTL Management Board and by Ernesto Mauri, President of Mondadori France, on Friday, October 15th at the RTL stand.

The SEAT IBE distinguished itself during this awards ceremony by receiving the prize of the "best concept-car". It outdistanced its competitors, Renault DeZir, Citroën Lacoste, Peugeot EX1, thanks to the success of the alliance of a dynamic design, compact sportiness, exceptional utility and a zero emission drive.

« The IBE is a summary of the future aesthetic DNA of the brand", underlined Marc de Laitre,  Managing Director of SEAT France.

The IBE proves that for SEAT, driving pleasure goes along perfectly with ecology. It will still be fun to drive, even in the era of the electric motor car – at least in a SEAT.

Honda Future Car Challenge

Barretts Honda News
Honda in Kent
News from the Honda Dealer for Canterbury and Kent

HONDA JAZZ HYBRID MAKES ITS UK DEBUT ON RAC FUTURE CAR CHALLENGE.

Three of Honda's cleanest cars will compete in the very first RAC Future Car Challenge in November. The new Honda Jazz Hybrid has been entered in the Brighton to London event, alongside the hydrogen-powered FCX Clarity fuel cell car and a sporty hybrid CR-Z.

Starting at Madeira Drive in Brighton, the Future Car Challenge uses the traditional 60-mile veteran car run route, but in reverse. The three Honda cars will be retracing the route taken by Honda Motor founder, Soichiro Honda, when he tackled the London to Brighton event in 1985.

All participating cars in the Challenge are measured on the energy they use on the route, with those using the least energy over the 60-mile run crowned the winners.

Making its debut on British roads is the Jazz with hybrid technology. This car features Honda’s innovative and reliable petrol-electric IMA system to lower emissions to 104 g/km and improve fuel economy to 64.2 mpg (preliminary figures). Honda has been able to add this cleaner hybrid technology to the supermini while retaining all the popular practical characteristics found in the non-hybrid version including the unique folding Magic Seats. The Honda Jazz with hybrid technology will be available to order in the UK from early 2011.

Supporting the Jazz will be the world’s first production fuel cell car – the ground-breaking FCX Clarity which emits no harmful exhaust emissions with only water vapour coming out of the tailpipe. This car offers a clean equivalent of what most of us drive today, including a good driving range of 270 miles, a 3-5 minute refuelling time and a flexible layout and design.

Boosting the Honda presence will be Honda’s CR-Z, the world’s first sporty hybrid coupe; a great looking car that’s exciting to drive and has all the benefits of advanced, low emission hybrid technology. It’s clean, efficient petrol-electric IMA hybrid powertrain not only offers good fuel economy (56.5 mpg) and a low exhaust emissions package, but also adds to the nippy driving characteristics of the car. The CR-Z was launched in the UK earlier this year and is available from £16,999.

The first cars competing in the Challenge will depart Brighton at 08:00 with the finish time estimated between 10:45 and 12:00 in Pall Mall, London.  Further information on the RAC Future Car Challenge can be found by visiting www.futurecarchallenge.com.

Honda BTCC Drivers 2011

Barretts Honda News
Honda in Kent

The Honda Racing Team today officially announced that drivers Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden will once again be behind the wheel of the Honda Racing Civics for the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

The strong partnership of twice BTCC champion Matt Neal and Gordon ‘Flash’ Shedden will build on the successful 2010 season for the Honda Racing Team. Both drivers were in contention until the final round at Brands Hatch earlier this month where they narrowly missed out in the fight for the Drivers’ crown, finishing in second and third spot respectively.

Neal, 43, from Worcester notched up 5 wins over the season while his team-mate Flash, 31, from Fife also had 5 wins. Shedden was recently awarded the prestigious BRDC Silver Star over both team-mate Neal and the 2010 BTCC Champion Plato, for scoring more points overall in his top 12 finishes this season.

Honda (UK) and Team Dynamics are already working closely together on plans and car development for the 2011 season. The team walked away with both the Team and Manufacturers’ Trophies and the target is for a clean sweep next season, so no one is resting on their laurels.

David Hodgetts, Managing Director, Honda (UK) said: "We are thrilled to announce Matt and Gordon as our drivers once again for next year. They have shown they are a winning combination on the track and they are excellent ambassadors for the Honda brand off the track too."

Matt Neal said: "I'm looking forward to a thrilling 2011. The Civic is a real driver’s car which gives you amazing performance and road holding both on and off the track. I can't wait to get the season started again."

Gordon Shedden said: "It was great to be back home in the Honda Civic in 2010 which delivered fantastic results. The aim is to come back even stronger and go for a clean sweep of titles in 2011. Bring it on!"

England Cricket Duo

Barretts Jaguar News
News from the Jaguar Dealers of Ashford and Canterbury, Kent

ENGLAND CRICKET DUO BOWLED OVER AT JAGUAR’S CASTLE BROMWICH PLANT

England Test cricketers Stuart Broad and Steven Finn were bowled over today when they visited Jaguar’s Castle Bromwich manufacturing plant in Birmingham to meet employees and to see how Britain’s famous luxury cars are made.

Broad and Finn, who fly to Australia at the end of October with the rest of the England cricket team in their bid to retain the Ashes, were given the opportunity to take a tour of the factory as part of an event organized by team partner Jaguar. During their visit the cricketers took time out to meet factory workers, pose for photography and sign autographs as they toured the assembly line at the plant.

England fast bowler, Stuart Broad, commented:

“It was a real privilege to visit the Castle Bromwich plant today to see how Jaguar’s are made. It’s a huge facility. As soon as you walk in the doors of the factory you really get a real understanding of the care and attention that goes into building every single model.”

21 year old Steven Finn, added:

“Walking around the plant you really get a sense of the rich history of Jaguar. I had no idea Spitfires and Lancasters were manufactured here during the war. The day was really interesting and I particularly enjoyed meeting the staff on the tour. They’re obviously passionate about the cars they make and they’re also very passionate about English cricket. It was a real boost for me and Broady that so many of them wished us good luck against the Aussies.”

Geoff Cousins, Managing Director Jaguar UK, said:

“Steven (Finn) and Stuart (Broad) drive XK models every day so it was great for us to show them the effort and expertise that goes into making each car. It was a boost for the employees to meet them both and I wish the entire England cricket team the best of luck at the Ashes.”

Earlier this year Jaguar became the Official Vehicle Supplier of the England Cricket Team. The four year partnership sees England’s centrally contracted cricketers drive Jaguar’s XJ, XF and XF models. Jaguar has also formed a strategic partnership with the ECB’s National Performance Centre. The partnership forms part of the “Jaguar Academy of Sport” which aims to recognise, celebrate and inspire the very best of British sporting talent and success.

Jaguar C-X75 Supercar

Barrets Jaguar News
News from the Jaguar Dealers of Ashford and Canterbury, Kent

JAGUAR C-X75 CONCEPT FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE ELECTRIC SUPERCAR UNVEILED AT PARIS

JAGUAR C-X75 CONCEPT FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE ELECTRIC SUPERCAR UNVEILED

• Stunning range-extended electric supercar concept

• A celebration of 75 years of beautiful, fast Jaguars, points the way to a new design language

• Capable of reaching 330km/h (205mph), sprinting from 0-100km/h (62mph) in just 3.4 seconds and blistering acceleration from 80-145km/h (50-90mph) in just 2.3 seconds

• Four powerful 145kW (195bhp) electric motors – one for each wheel - produce 780bhp and an astonishing total torque output of 1600Nm (1180lb ft)

• Two micro gas-turbines, spinning at 80,000 rpm, can generate enough electricity to extend the range to a remarkable 560 miles; and produce just 28 grams of CO2 per kilometre from the car’s plug-in charge capability

• A zero tailpipe emissions range of 110km (68 miles) while running solely on battery power

Jaguar has revealed a stunning range-extended electric supercar concept car. The C-X75 has been designed to celebrate 75 years of the marque and provide a glimpse into the future of Jaguar and its commitment to producing beautiful, fast cars powered by sustainable means.

“The C-X75 is a tribute to the people who shaped the iconic Jaguars that are revered to this day. By making it an innovative test-bed for the technologies of tomorrow, it also ensures that our reputation for engineering excellence will continue for another 75 years and beyond.”
Mike O’Driscoll, Managing Director, Jaguar Cars

75 Years of Jaguar Design

The C-X75 hints at an exciting evolution of Jaguar's design language while paying homage to some of its most admired cars of years gone by. Advanced design features such as a ground-breaking propulsion system and active aerodynamics allow for an elegantly simple fuselage section that remains stable at very high speeds.

The C-X75 is finished in Jetstream Silver, its designers staying true to the long-held Jaguar design philosophy of natural, flowing lines and simple, elegant forms. Where inspiration from the past was found is in the innovative engineering and functional design elements of cars like the 1950s C-Type and D-Type racers and unique 1966 XJ13 Le Mans prototype – a car described by Callum as, “arguably the most beautiful Jaguar ever made”.

Shorter and lower than the current crop of supercars, its exterior design is about pure performance with a simple central fuselage surrounded by prominent wheel arches. Thanks to the packaging efficiencies provided by the absence of a conventional piston engine, the car’s designers had maximum freedom in placing the mechanical components and creating the most elegant engineering package available.

“The C-X75 is everything a Jaguar should be. It possesses remarkable poise and grace yet at the same time has the excitement and potency of a true supercar. You could argue this is as close to a pure art form as a concept car can get and we believe it is a worthy homage to 75 years of iconic Jaguar design.”
Ian Callum, Design Director, Jaguar Cars

Propulsion system

The 330km/h (205mph) four-wheel drive supercar is capable of running in purely electric (zero tailpipe emissions) mode for 110km (68 miles) on a six-hour domestic plug-in charge. The innovative, lightweight micro gas-turbines are also capable of very quickly and efficiently recharging the Lithium-ion batteries, giving the car a theoretical range of 900km (560 miles).

This remarkable range-extension system is a result of Jaguar’s research engineers adopting a clean-sheet approach to the question of powering the supercars of the future. The C-X75 turns to the very latest evolution of a pioneering British technology: the gas turbine.

Developed in partnership with Bladon Jets, the miniaturised turbine blade - the first viable axial-flow micro-turbine - increases the compression and efficiency of micro gas-turbines to the point at which they can be viewed as a realistic power source. Each of the micro gas-turbines weighs just 35kg and produces 70kW of power at a constant 80,000rpm.

Power and control

The energy created by the turbines and stored in the batteries is transmitted to the road using four independent electric motors. Using individual motors has benefits in terms of weight-saving and distribution, packaging and efficiency. Each motor weighs just 50kg but produces 145kW (195bhp) of power and an astonishing combined total torque output of 1600Nm (1180lb ft).

Because each wheel is driven by its own electric motor, the C-X75 is four-wheel drive – with all the traction, grip and safety benefits that entails – without the weight disadvantages of a purely mechanical set-up. Inherent in this drivetrain is the ability to independently vector torque to each wheel across the full speed range. This offers potential benefits in terms of stability and control, creating an infinitely and instantaneously adjustable traction and stability control system.

Driver-focused cabin

With the seats fixed, the steering wheel, controls, main binnacle and pedal box all adjust towards the driver. The seats are attached to the bulkhead as in a single-seater racing car, and air to feed the turbines passes smoothly around them via channels in the structure of the body.

A new interface for the driver has also been created for the C-X75 using high-resolution TFT screens. Building on Jaguar’s 10-year expertise in touchscreen technology, the Jaguar Co-Pilot display in the centre console supports the driver in extracting the full potential of the C-X75 by seamlessly managing information.

The main driver information screen is housed within the instrument binnacle. Needles float on the periphery of the twin cowls and sweep round the outer edge to display the status and rpm of the two turbines. The design team combined designs from instrumentation in the new XJ saloon with those from fighter aircraft to create virtual 3D ‘gimbals’ around which the gauges wrap and rotate to provide status updates.

75 years of innovation

"Performance through innovation has always been a Jaguar trademark. From the beginning, cars such as the C-Type and D-Type pioneered aluminium construction, aerodynamic design, racing monocoques and disc brakes. The C-X75 demonstrates that Jaguar is still leading the field automotive design and technology. And will always continue to build beautiful, fast cars."
Ralf Speth, Chief Executive Officer, Jaguar Land Rover

Advanced aluminium lightweight construction

Jaguar’s expertise in the use of aluminium stretches back more than 50 years to the first XK120s, through the lightweight E-Types, the XK and all-new 2010 XJ. It was with this latter creation that Jaguar fully realised the lightweight metal’s benefits to performance, agility, economy and sustainability in a luxury car.

The C-X75 naturally follows the same construction techniques with an extruded and bonded aerospace-inspired aluminium chassis clad in panels of the same material. Not only does this save weight, crucial in a car with an extreme performance envelope, but aluminium is one of the most easily recyclable metals available, boosting the C-X75’s sustainability as well as its speed.

Active Aerodynamics

Aerodynamics have always played a large part in Jaguar design with the late designer Malcolm Sayer elevating it into an art form in cars such as the XJ13, the prototype from which the C-X75 draws inspiration.

Jaguar has increased the design’s aerodynamic efficiency dramatically by opening the front grille and brake cooling vents only when necessary. At the rear corners of the car vertical control surfaces automatically engage at higher speeds to direct airflow aft of the rear wheels for increased stability and efficiency.

The carbon-fibre rear diffuser, a crucial element in guiding airflow under the car and creating downforce includes an active aerofoil, which is lowered automatically as speed increases. Vanes in the exhaust ports then alter the directional flow of the gases to further increase the effectiveness of the Venturi tunnel.

Honda Enhances Civic Styling for 2011

Barretts Honda News
Honda in Kent

Honda Enhances Civic Styling for 2011

The British-built Honda Civic has been given a refresh with a range of cosmetic enhancements for 2011. The updates and additions are designed to enhance the striking appearance and passenger comfort of the car at no extra cost to the customer.

Production for the 2011 Honda Civic begins at the Swindon manufacturing plant in November 2010 with prices starting from £13,995 for the 1.4 Type S.

Exterior updates
Eyes are immediately drawn to the new front grille, which has taken inspiration from the iconic ‘Type R’ model, creating a smarter, more upmarket face for the popular hatchback.

Exterior updates also include a range of new alloy wheels now fitted as standard, with individual designs and sizes dependent on the variant chosen. New 16-inch rims feature on the Civic five-door range in 1.4-litre SE and Si, plus 1.8-litre SE trim levels. While the five-door 1.8-litre Si now wears a fresh set of 17-inch boots.

On the sports-inspired Type S model, the 1.4-litre Civic now benefits from colour-coded sideskirts and revised 16-inch alloys. The other news is a dynamic new exterior colour - Ionized Bronze, which is available across the Civic range.

Interior comfort
Keeping the driver and passenger comfortable is also part of the 2011 Model Year upgrade package, with a series of new interior finishes. SE and ES trim gets half fabric and luxurious Alcantara, while Si is now half leather and Alcantara with heated front seats.

Honda Clinches BTCC Championship

Barretts Honda News

Honda Clinches BTCC Championship

Honda Racing clinched the Teams Championship at the final rounds of the 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch last weekend to add to its already impressive haul of silverware this season.

Drivers Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden took three podiums across the three races to help Team Dynamics, which runs the Honda Racing Team Civics, to fend off the opposition and win the trophy. Honda had already wrapped up the Manufacturers spoils.

While the drivers narrowly missed out in the fight for the drivers’ crown to Jason Plato, Neal said that the team’s on-track showings had exceeded expectations.
“Usually you would be delighted to have finished second in a championship but it isn’t enough for us,” said Neal. “We are winners and that is what we always want to do but we were up against a team with huge budget.

“It has been a great year for Honda and we have had some great successes so it is nice to reward the boys who work so hard on the car with a trophy. I gave it everything I had got at Brands Hatch and drove my heart out but it just didn’t work out for me to overhaul Plato.”

Despite the personal disappointment, Neal says he is already plotting his revenge. “For us the work never stops,” added Neal. “We have already started thinking about next year’s challenge and how we can take a clean sweep of all the trophies. This week is the first week of our 2011 programme and we can’t wait to get stuck in to it.”

Shedden, who finished in third place in the points, paid tribute to the work done by the team throughout the year to extract every last ounce of performance from the two-litre touring car. “I am upset that neither Matt or I were able to reward Honda with a drivers title but just take a look at the way we have performed this season as a unit. The car has been fantastic all the way through the year and we have been up against some of the most experienced rivals you could imagine.

“Against that backdrop, we have pushed hard and made the car competitive at every circuit. As a result, we have taken two of the three major titles on offer. It also means we should be really proud of having two of the top three drivers in the championship. That shows that Honda is a winning product and that it will only get faster in the BTCC.”

New Alhambra

New Alhambra impresses journalists at international launch

“The steering is accurate and well-weighted, if a little short on sensation; body roll is restrained and even driven with gusto it feels composed”, writes Parrott. “The 1.4 TSI and manual ’box proves to be a sweet powertrain, too. It won’t sell in big numbers, but given its lower list price, more pliant ride quality and excellent engine refinement it could make the better option over the diesel if the primary task is a short daily school run.”

“Residuals are in Volkswagen’s favour, but there’s not much in it and the Alhambra’s the kind of car you keep until depreciation matters less than whether you can get the ice cream stains out of the upholstery and pass another MOT. It doesn’t have the sparkle of an S-Max or Galaxy, but Ford should start worrying.”

Honest John also reckons that the new Alhambra could trouble the current class-leaders: “Finally, some four years after Ford came up with its new Galaxy and S-Max, VAG has delivered a new Alhambra and Sharan. Don’t buy any of the three until you’ve tried them all.”

“Out on the road, the new Alhambra is almost spectacularly easy to drive with decent handling and good front-end grip,” he says. “With the six-speed DSG you can leave it in drive, sharpen it up with the ‘sport’ setting, or flip the lever over to allow full driver control by means of the steering wheel paddleshifts.

“I’m very pleased to report back that this DSG was in no way obstructive as DSGs have been to me in the past. Even quick three point turns were accomplished without any hesitation. And there wasn’t a trace of the dreaded interference when nosing out of a junction. This one felt as good as Ford/Getrag’s Powershift.

“The (so far) manual-only 1.4 Twincharger chain cam petrol doesn’t have the grunt of the diesels, but doesn’t have the coarseness either. It’s more than adequate about town, though loses out to the diesels on the motorway.”

Testers at Parkers were also impressed by the new MPV: “This new version brings [the Alhambra] toe to toe with the major competition, offering both quality and value for money.

Barretts Honda makes car ownership more affordable

Barretts Honda News - Honda in Kent
News from Barretts Honda in Canterbury, Kent

Barretts Honda continues to make new car ownership more affordable by extending its range of enticing offers right through until the end of the year.

    • Three years’ complimentary servicing and three years’ free road tax on majority of Jazz, Civic, and Insight models until the end of the year
    • CR-V petrol range benefits from three years free servicing
    • Customer savings on Jazz 1.2 S, Civic 1.4 Type-S and Insight SE models
    • Type-R GT available for £19,995 OTR – saving of over £2,000
    • Competitive finance options available – new Jazz available for as little as £122 per month

Customers visiting Barretts Honda in Canterbury, Kent can take advantage of three years’ affordable driving, cost savings and competitive finance options, to help off-set the cost of new car ownership for the first three years.

    Three Years’ Affordable Driving
After a successful 'Three Years’ Affordable Driving' campaign launch in early summer, Honda (UK) is extending the popular offer. Customers can now benefit from three years’ complimentary servicing, three years’ free road tax and a range of competitive finance options on the majority of Jazz, Civic and Insight models. The CR-V petrol range also benefits from three years complimentary servicing alongside a selection of low-rate finance options.

This offer, combined with Honda’s standard one year’s road side assistance, three year new car warranty and Honda’s reputation for bulletproof reliability, means affordable Honda new car ownership for the first three years.

    Customer savings
In addition to driving down running costs, savings can also be made on selected Jazz, Civic and Insight models. Customers can drive away with a new Jazz 1.2 S from £9,995 – a saving of £995, or a Civic 1.4 Type-S from £13,995 – or even an Insight for just £14,995, further cementing its place as the lowest price hybrid on the market.

Those customers wanting to buy a Type-R before UK production halts later this year can get an impressive £2,330 saving on the Type-R GT - bringing the cost down to £19,995 OTR.

    Low-rate finance options
There is also a selection of competitive finance options available to enable drivers to spread the cost over three years to provide a low monthly payment. For example, with a 25 per cent deposit, customers can secure a 5.9 per cent PCP over three years. For those with a smaller deposit, 10 per cent can secure a 7.9 per cent PCP over the same duration. A two year 0 per cent HP is available with a 35 per cent down payment.*

“It made sense for us to extend the affordable driving campaign. It has been a very popular offer - bringing down not only the initial cost of a new car, but also the cost of ownership over the first three years,” concluded Martin Moll, Head of Marketing for Honda (UK). “It really takes the hassle and worry out of new car ownership.”

Range Rover Evoque at Paris Fashion Week

Barretts Land Rover and Range Rover Evoque News
News for the Land Rover Dealers for Canterbury and Ashford in Kent
Range Rover Evoque at Paris Fashion Week

Cars and fashion united tonight as Range Rover celebrated the launch of the all-new Range Rover Evoque at Paris Fashion Week.

Juliette Lewis performed an hour long set at the event which took place aboard a yacht, on the Seine. Speaking of the city she said: “I LOVE Paris, the cool sophistication and the cafés. I love French audiences they really understand what I do. All the drama, danger, love and rock n’ roll energy.”

Other guests who attended this evening event included fashion designer Henry Holland, musician Greg Kozo (Make the Girl Dance), actor Ethan James and DJ A-Trak.

Earlier today Range Rover had unveiled four pop-up street installations at key Parisian landmarks. The brand has worked with leading contemporary Parisian artists to create artworks which have been inspired by the new Range Rover Evoque and the city of Paris.

The installations focus on luxury, design, sustainability and technology and represent key aspects of the car. The artists behind the installations are André (AKA Monsieur A), Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Surface To Air and Yorgo Touplas. Each of the chosen artists has long been influenced by their city, Paris, but today they each revealed how this relationship has led to a 3 day street pop-up with Range Rover.

The week’s events will culminate with the public debut of the Range Rover Evoque at the Paris Motor Show on the 30th September.

Range Rover Evoque Pop-Up Street Installations

Barrretts Land Rover and Range Rover Evoque News
News for the Land Rover Dealers for Canterbury and Ashford in Kent

RANGE ROVER UNVEIL POP UP STREET INSTALLATIONS CREATED BY FOUR PARISIAN ARTISTS TO CELEBRATE OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF RANGE ROVER EVOQUE

Paris, September 28th 2010: Range Rover has today unveiled four pop-up temporary street installations at key Parisian landmarks. The brand has worked with leading contemporary Parisian artists to create artworks which have been inspired by the new Range Rover Evoque and the city of Paris.

The installations focus on luxury, design, sustainability and technology and represent key aspects of the car. Each will be unveiled at the start of Paris Fashion Week and have been created by artists André (AKA Monsieur A), JCDC, Surface To Air and Yorgo Touplas. Each of the chosen artists has long been influenced by their city, Paris, but today they each reveal how this relationship has led to a three day street pop-up with Range Rover.

Artist JC/DC says of his installation:
“My representation of luxury references grace, intimacy and protection. This is a concept frequently related to the pleasures of enveloping oneself in a garment and my work with bespoke and couture fashion. Similar to luxury clothing, this installation reflects a graceful protection.”

The pop-up street installations have been built around a wire frame replica of the Range Rover Evoque and will be positioned at iconic locations, including the Pompidou Centre and the Palais de Tokyo. They will be in situ from September 28th – September 30th 2010 and open to the public to view.

Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern, said:
“The Range Rover Evoque has been designed with a creative and urban audience in mind. Like a true Range Rover, the Evoque delivers the all-weather, all-surface capability which is a hallmark of the brand.  Paris is the first city to see the car and we wanted to mark its arrival with a series of unique installations that epitomise the cars’ city spirit.”

Range Rover reveal at Paris Motor Show

The Range Rover Evoque will be officially unveiled at the Paris Motor Show on the 30th September. The all-new coupe is the smallest, lightest and most fuel-efficient Range Rover ever. It will be a truly global car and will be sold in over 160 markets from summer 2011.

      VIP event
On September 28th a VIP event will be held on a boat moored on the River Seine to celebrate the galleries and official launch of the vehicle. The event will be styled by acclaimed set designer Petra Storrs. Actress and musician Juliette Lewis will perform a live set and A-Trak will DJ at the event.

      Honda Euro NCAP Advanced Award

      Barretts Honda News
HONDA RECEIVES EURO NCAP ADVANCED AWARD FOR SAFETY INNOVATION

Honda has been presented with one of the first Euro NCAP Advanced honours for the pioneering Collision Mitigation Brake System (CMBS), recognising the technology as one of the best car safety innovations.

      • Honda’s Collision Mitigation Brake System (CMBS) awarded Euro NCAP Advanced honour
      • CMBS is a radar-based autonomous emergency braking technology to help prevent collisions
      • Euro NCAP Advanced evaluates safety technologies not tested under the traditional Euro NCAP assessment

This award reflects Honda’s commitment to overall vehicle safety and compliments Honda’s long standing in-house safety testing which seeks to improve real world safety.
Euro NCAP Advanced was initiated by Euro NCAP in response to the rapid development of new safety technologies available which are not tested under the traditional star assessment - like Honda’s CMBS system.

Honda’s award-winning Collision Mitigation Brake System (CMBS) is a radar-based autonomous emergency braking system designed to help prevent collisions with vehicles which are stationary or travelling in the same direction.

      Honda’s Collision Mitigation Brake System
The technology works at speeds above 9 mph and if the system senses that the car is likely to collide with a car in front, a three stage process is initiated. In the first, typically around 3 seconds before impact, the driver is alerted by visual and audible warnings. In the second stage, when the system senses that a collision is still likely (2 seconds before impact), three sharp tugs are given on the seat belt and the car automatically starts to apply some braking. Finally, when a collision is unavoidable, CMBS tightens the front seat occupants’ seatbelts and applies a high level of braking force. The technology is available as an option on Accord and CR-V models.

      About Euro NCAP
Euro NCAP provides motoring consumers with a realistic and independent assessment of the safety performance of some of the most popular cars sold in Europe. Since the introduction of the new rating scheme Euro NCAP have tested 5 Honda models; Civic, Accord, Jazz, Insight and most recently CR-Z. All 5 models achieved 5 stars, with the Honda Insight also being named “safest hybrid vehicle” as well as the 2nd safest vehicle tested in 2009.

Euro NCAP Advanced is a Euro NCAP initiative in response to the rapid development of new safety technologies available when buying cars for which there is no independent assessment. Euro NCAP Advanced is open to any technical system that has a clear safety benefit and as long as it is available as an option on one of the Euro NCAP tested cars and not already addressed by the current star rating.

Detailed information about the 2010 rewarded technologies, their safety benefits and the related cars is now available on Euro NCAP’s website: www.euroncap.com.

      Honda at Paris Motor Show

      Honda at theParis Motor Show

Honda Jazz with hybrid technology: Low Emissions and Practicality without Compromise

The hybrid version of Jazz makes its world motor show debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, further demonstrating Honda’s continuing commitment to petrol-electric hybrid technology.

The launch of the latest addition to the practical Jazz line-up marks the first time a parallel hybrid vehicle has been available to B-segment consumers. Importantly, the Jazz will not lose any of its practicality, as the compact IMA hybrid system allows the B-segment car to retain its ultra-flexible “Magic Seats” and 300 litres of boot space.

The IMA battery pack and power control unit have been integrated in the area under the boot floor, retaining the normal boot area and allowing the “Magic Seats” to fold in the same manner as non-hybrid versions. This means that the seats still fold entirely flat to provide a surprising 831 litre of space, or the seat bases can be folded up to sit vertically, so as to accommodate tall items within the car.
The IMA hybrid system is shared with the Insight and CR-Z hybrids, taking advantage of the proven reliability of this important technology. With almost two decades of development and 10 years of sales behind it, the IMA system has proven itself to be a flexible and dependable system, with over half a million vehicles on the road benefitting from its combination of low emissions and good fuel economy.

The new Jazz features the same IMA system as in the Insight hybrid, using the same 1.3-litre i-VTEC engine. The IMA system is combined with a CVT gearbox in the Jazz and with emissions of just 104 g/km* of CO2 it has the lowest CO2 output of any automatic car in the B-segment. As a petrol-electric hybrid, the new derivative has ultra-low levels of other exhaust emissions (NOx, PM etc).
Visually, the hybrid is distinguished from the current Jazz range with revised headlights, clear rear lights, new front grille, restyled bumpers and a chrome tailgate. The car will be available in a range of existing colours plus a bespoke Lime Green metallic.
Inside, the cabin is given a fresh look with a darker, single-colour dashboard, which contrasts strongly with the blue lighting of the dials and centre console. The new hybrid is also available with leather trim, the first time this has been an option on a Jazz model in Europe.
The dashboard includes a version of Honda’s ‘Eco Assist’ function, which uses the ambient lighting of the speedometer to advise the driver on how their driving style is impacting on their fuel economy. The Eco Assist function helps drivers get maximum economy from their car in everyday situations and gives users real-time feedback on how different braking and throttle techniques can affect both fuel bills and environmental impact.
*Internal figure, homologation not yet finalised

While respecting the distinctive features of the car, a range of Genuine Accessories will further accentuate its hybrid character. Exterior and interior options, such as doorstep decals, B-pillar embellishments and alloy wheels, can be fitted according to the driver's personal taste. A Solid State Drive navigation, hands-free Bluetooth® and rear entertainment system are available to provide extra technological comfort.

The hybrid version of Jazz will go on sale in the UK in the early part of 2011, prices and full specifications will be announced in due course.

      2011 Honda Insight

The 2011 Honda Insight on the stand at Paris features a revised interior, with the dashboard and seat trim now a darker hue for the new model year. The latest car also features revised suspension components and settings, specification changes and two new exterior colours.

      Interior Changes
The most noticeable difference is the change to black in the upper section of the dashboard of the Insight, significantly altering the ambience of the hybrid’s cabin. There are now two interior colour combinations available; the first being an entirely black dash, combined with black seats, door panels and centre console. Alternatively, a grey lower dash section, seats and centre console can be selected, giving a lighter appearance to the cabin. For the first time leather seats are available on the Insight and these can be combined with either of the new dashboard and trim colour schemes.
Complementing the interior colour choices are some trim revisions with chrome rings for the air vents and heating controls to contrast against the darker interior. On top grade models with the black interior a silver metallic appearance trim is applied to the door grips.

      Suspension Enhancements
In response to customer feedback, the Insight has also seen revisions to the suspension, with settings and components altered to improve the ride, stability and handling of the 5-door hybrid. The changes include changing the shape of the V in the suspension brace, altering the rear camber, adjusting the recoil rate of the springs, changing the front suspension knuckle and increasing the size of underbody aerodynamic parts.

      New Colours
Two new exterior colours have been added, with Dynamic Blue Pearl replacing Neutron Blue and Carnelian Red Pearl replacing New Red Pearl. For the first time parking sensors are made standard on top grade cars to enhance customer convenience.

      Bespoke Hybrid Model
The Insight utilises the efficient, compact and proven 1.3-litre i-VTEC engine, combined with an electric motor. This engine and motor combination is shared with the new Jazz hybrid and both models benefit from the ability to run on electric power alone under some speed conditions. CO2 emissions remain at 101 g/km and fuel consumption at 64mpg.
The combination of an aerodynamic body and a parallel hybrid powertrain gives the Insight impressive environmental performance with a low overall exhaust emissions package. The Insight has also been developed to offer excellent fuel economy and emissions in real world conditions, not just in official tests. The Eco Assist encourages and assists drivers in achieving good fuel economy every day with the coaching function and ECON button.

      Recycling of Battery Packs
Importantly, the Insight is manufactured in a plant where zero production waste ends up in landfill and a suite of energy saving techniques are used to reduce overall impact. At the end of the vehicle’s life the Insight is designed to be highly recyclable and recoverable and the batteries can be easily recycled through any Honda dealer.

Environment Zone Takes Centre Stage at Paris

The Honda stand at Paris features an environment zone hosting the company’s most important environmental technologies, celebrating the company’s 10 years of selling hybrids in Europe and cutting-edge fuel cell research. The zone will be surrounded by a wide range of Honda products and a range of official Honda accessories.

      Honda Jazz with hybrid technology
Pride of place in the environment zone goes to the new Jazz with hybrid technology, which brings a hybrid parallel drive train to this class of car for the first time. The lowest emission B-segment automatic available in Europe will take the position at the head of the environment zone, alongside its hybrid and fuel cell electric counterparts.

      Insight
Two versions of the revised 2011 Insight are displayed close to the Jazz, with which it shares its ultra-clean and frugal IMA parallel hybrid drivetrain. The 2011 model Insight features revisions to the interior, suspension and specifications to bring even greater appeal to the bespoke hybrid model. For more information, please see the Insight section of the press pack.

      CR-Z
The CR-Z is exciting to drive, great to look at and has a healthy respect for the environment. It is designed and engineered by Honda for modern, urban living.

As the world’s first sporty hybrid, it’s stylish looks stand-out from other ‘green’ cars on the market and it offers true driving thrills thanks to an agile chassis, direct steering, a low driving position and useful boosts of torque from the petrol-electric drivetrain.

It’s most at home in urban environments, zipping from light to light, and nipping in and out of traffic. Because it’s a hybrid it has low exhaust emissions, benefits from cheaper road tax, and – for Londoners – is exempt from the Congestion Charge.

      The first driver-focused hybrid

The CR-Z brings driving excitement to hybrids for the first time. Direct steering, a short-shift six-speed manual gearbox, low driving position and kart-like handling complement the drivetrain that provides bursts of power thanks to the responsive pull of the electric motor.
      An involving drive
The chassis was an important factor in the development of the CR-Z, with driver enjoyment being core to the design. The platform shares some components with the Jazz and Insight models, but the wheelbase, track width and set-up are all unique to the coupe

      3-Mode Drive System
To maximise driver choice and enhance the day-to-day drivability of the CR-Z, it has a unique 3-Mode Drive System that allows the driver to choose between three driving modes and adapt the car’s settings to enjoy their favourite road, maximise economy, or strike a balance between the two.
A CR-Z Genuine Accessories range has been developed in four themes to enable Honda’s dealers and customers to easily identify their individual requirements. The Carbon theme includes floor carpets and door-step decals, interior panels, body skirts and a 17” alloy wheel. The Metallic theme covers a front sports grille, door mirror covers, air-intake details, pillar decorations and speaker rings. The Illumination theme gives a cool, blue luminescence to the interior of the CR-Z, while the Coloured theme offers tailgate garnishes and body styling graphics. The CR-Z Genuine Accessories range offers
customers a wide variety of options to individualise and enhance their vehicle.

      Civic Hybrid
Rounding off Honda’s range of IMA parallel hybrids, the Civic Hybrid has been a pioneer of hybrid technology in Europe and the inclusion of the current version in the range gives customers a choice of four hybrids.

      HondaJet
The HondaJet is the realisation of Soichiro Honda’s long-held dream to fly and for his company to produce an aircraft product. The six seat business jet epitomises Honda’s design philosophy, by using an unconventional design to consume 25 per cent less fuel than comparable designs. The Over-The-Wing engine mount design of the HondaJet assists this quest for reduced consumption and gives it a distinctive, yet sleek look, which can be seen in the displayed model.

The GE-Honda HF120 engines are capable of launching the jet from a runway just 951 metres long and on to a maximum cruise of 420 knots true airspeed. Already, more than 100 orders have been placed for the $4.5 million jet and US deliveries commence in the middle of 2012, with European sales starting in 2013. For more details please visit  www.hondajet.com

      FCX Clarity
Honda’s production fuel cell electric vehicle, the FCX Clarity, takes a break from extensive R&D testing across Europe to appear at the Paris Motor Show. The world’s first production fuel cell electric vehicle has been available to lease in the US and Japan since 2008, and has been delivered to customers including actress Jamie Lee Curtis and ice hockey player, Scott Niedermayer.

The FCX Clarity is fundamentally an electric vehicle, with a hydrogen fuel cell stack providing the electricity from a reaction between hydrogen and atmospheric oxygen. This reaction has only one emission: water! The FCX Clarity can be refuelled from empty to full in less than four minutes and has a range of 280 miles.

The FCX Clarity has ample space for four full-size adults plus luggage and combines this with a whisper quiet, 100mph top speed. Honda’s fuel cell electric vehicle shows that a vehicle with no harmful emissions can be practical, comfortable and fun to drive.

In 2010, the FCX Clarity has been all over Europe to demonstrate the potential of fuel cell electric technology to politicians, key decision makers and infrastructure projects. Demonstrations this year have included a visit to a European Youth Parliament event and the World Hydrogen Energy Conference in Essen.

      3R-C
The environment zone is complemented by a range of other Honda technologies and concepts, including the 3R-C three-wheel, zero emission concept vehicle. This urban commuter concept was first seen at the Geneva Motor Show 2010, where it was unveiled to great acclaim.

      ASIMO
ASIMO, Honda’s humanoid robot will also be at Paris, demonstrating just how much progress has been made in the 24 years the company has been researching this technology.
