Extravagant collector's items are auctioned off for charity.

On 17 July, celebrity fashion designers Diane von Furstenberg, Kenneth Cole and Calvin Klein Collection’s Francisco Costa personally unveiled to the public the 2010 Life Ball MINIs they personally designed. Last Saturday night, the international style icons accompanied “their” MINIs along the red carpet laid out on Vienna’s City Hall Square on the occasion of the annual AIDS charity event. The three gems on wheels were given a rapturous welcome by the enthusiastic crowds.

Belgian-born US fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg captivated onlookers with a bright red MINI which she had sprinkled with numerous colourful lips. Elegant mother-of-pearl white lent an iridescent touch to the wheel rims, mirror caps and roof of the car. Delivering a similar dash of glamour was the gleaming silver MINI Convertible by New York fashion star Kenneth Cole, with a surface of brushed metal and some 8,000 studs applied by hand. Inside the car, the creative New Yorker showed his keen attention to detail in the fine-leather seats, piping with Swarovski crystals, stud appliqués and embossed logos, among other features. Calvin Klein Collection’s award-winning Women’s Creative Director Francisco Costa designed an arresting MINI Countryman in matt black paintwork with a reflective logo on each of the front doors. The tinted windows lent the car an aura of mystery.

The Life Ball MINI by Calvin Klein Collection’s Francisco Costa went under the hammer for the amount of 40.000 Euro that same evening as part of the amfAR Gala in Vienna in support of the AIDS charity. The other two MINIs will be auctioned at upcoming amfAR events. Total proceeds will go to amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research. Dr Wolfgang Armbrecht, Senior Vice President MINI Brand Management, commented: “We can now look back on a successful ten-year partnership with the Life Ball. The event is an excellent platform for the MINI brand, while our involvement allows us to contribute further to the fight against HIV/AIDS.”

MINI at the 2010 Life Ball.
This was MINI’s tenth successive involvement in Europe’s leading AIDS charity event. The 18th Life Ball was held in Vienna on 17 July 2010 and once again served as a hot spot for international celebrities. This colourful, extrovert event flew the flag for solidarity and provided MINI with the perfect platform on which to highlight its social-political commitment. Global measures to fight HIV/AIDS are a key element of the BMW Group’s involvement on behalf of social causes.

This year’s Life Ball – held to coincide with the 18th International Aids Conference in Vienna that starts the day after the event – took place against a special backdrop. On 17 July, not only Vienna’s City Hall and City Hall Square were dedicated to the red ribbon; the Burgtheater also played its part with the Red Ribbon Cotillion Summer Ball, as will the Austrian Parliament, which hosted the amfAR Gala.

In the spirit of this year’s motto “Sow the Seeds of Solidarity!” and the “Earth” theme, the 2010 Life Ball wanted to sow its seeds around the world wherever the need is greatest.

Leeds and Reading Festival, SEAT

SEAT will be the Official Car Partner to this year’s Reading and Leeds festivals.

The strategic alignment with the UK’s premier dual-site festival – both events sold out within hours and take place simultaneously over the August Bank Holiday weekend – is the latest move by SEAT into the arena of entertainment sponsorship.

Shakira Live in Concert

Hot on the heels of her starring role at the World Cup kick-off concert and appearance at Glastonbury Festival, global pop sensation Shakira has announced details of the European leg of her 2010 world tour, sponsored by SEAT.

A dizzying schedule of European dates throughout November and December this year will see the Colombian singer perform all over the Continent, with dates confirmed in – among many other cities – Paris, Madrid, Berlin, Lisbon and Barcelona.

And the great news for her British fans is that the Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter has a cluster of UK concerts lined up.

SEAT and Shakira’s collaboration agreement includes SEAT’s sponsorship of the pop star’s European tour, and support of her Barefoot Foundation charity in its efforts to deliver universal education. Shakira will also act as a distinguished ambassador for SEAT throughout her tour.

The new Ibiza Good Stuff celebrates SEAT’s partnership with Shakira. SEAT Race Free iPhone Game

The latest SEAT racing game for iPhone and iPod Touch – ‘SEAT Race’ – is out now. It builds on the success of the Ibiza and Leon Cupra Race games that were launched last year which have been already been downloaded nearly one million times, making them one the most popular free racing games available from the Apple app store.

The iPhone app allows players to drive any car in the SEAT range without worrying about making expensive insurance claims. To move up a level and into Championship mode, players need to get a code from the Club SEAT website.

The game also allows players to share their fastest laps with their friends via social media sites such as Facebook, and challenge their mates to beat their hot times. This idea of sharing experiences and inviting friends to 'get involved' is a key part of what Club SEAT is all about.

‘SEAT Race’ has a new layout and design, and features the new Ibiza ST and a dramatic in-car view. There are two new circuits including ‘Alpine’, a mountain circuit where the player can improve his/her cornering, and ‘Racing’, a race circuit to give you the same adrenalin rush as a professional driver. There’s also a new competition mode ‘Full throttle’ in the Championship levels, which is exclusively available to Club SEAT members.

Jaguar has won the Luxury Car category in this year's What Car? Green Awards with its XJ 3.0 Diesel V6 Luxury model with the judges saying it is the best green luxury car money can buy.

The verdict of the What Car? judges was: "In a class dominated by understated design, the Jaguar XJ’s styling takes your breath away. It’s powerful yet athletic, imposing yet sleek. No other luxury car gets as much attention for the way it looks. You’ll enjoy driving the XJ an awful lot more than most of its competition, too. The Jaguar XJ is stunning, in every sense of the word."

The all-new XJ’s beauty is much more than skin-deep. The XJ benefits from the most advanced, powerful and efficient Jaguar powertrains ever and is constructed using Jaguar’s aerospace-inspired aluminium body technology, which makes the XJ lighter than its rivals by at least 150kg. These technologies significantly improve performance, handling and economy, while delivering increased strength, refinement and safety.

What Car? editor-in-chief Steve Fowler said: "British designed and built, the Jaguar is equipped with an efficient, high-tech diesel engine which in a comparatively light car makes for some spectacular emissions figures: CO2 is just 184g/km, while NOx is an equally impressive 0.142g/km.

What Car? considered a range of environmental factors, not just CO2 and other pollutants to choose their winners. The best green cars score highly on other important buying considerations, too – from space and practicality to buying and running costs as well as being great fun to drive and to be in.

The all-new XJ takes a new approach to sustainable motoring, with its lightweight aluminium body structure and advanced powertrains. Jaguar has developed its approach to sustainability by focusing on the ‘lifecycle’ of a vehicle; a more stringent approach to sustainability than standalone measures like fuel consumption or CO2 emissions.

Geoff Cousins, Managing Director, Jaguar UK said: "Environmental considerations are increasingly important to car buyers. By taking a lifecycle approach to the new XJ we have minimised the amount of materials used, we use recycled material and low-energy manufacturing processes, as well as making the vehicle easy to recycle at the end of its life."

Jaguar’s aluminium architecture is a significant contributor to the green credentials of the new XJ. It uses around 50 percent recycled material in the body, and plans are in place to increase that figure to 75 percent. This alone creates a saving of three tonnes of CO2 per vehicle, compared to a bodyshell made from new aluminium.

Geoff Cousins added: "This accolade from What Car? demonstrates that we have successfully created a green car without compromising the quality, luxury and sports car-like drive that our customers want to enjoy in their Jaguar. This all helps make the Jaguar XJ more desirable which boosts residual values - industry experts already predict that the new Jaguar XJ will have class-leading residual values; better than Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz over the next three years.

"Sales of the new Jaguar XJ, which arrived in dealers at the end of May, have helped Jaguar to a great sales result for the first half of 2010, along with a strong performance for XF and XK. In its first full month on sale, the XJ has taken the market lead outselling the Mercedes S Class and BMW 7-Series."

What Car? puts eco-friendly Leon through ‘green hell’



A team of test-drivers from market-leading consumer magazine What Car? have put the ultra-frugal Leon Ecomotive through its paces at the legendary Nürburgring racetrack.

They set out to establish whether there was as a cool green car that could also deliver the warm, rosy feelings prompted by a more sporting drive.

The tax-beating Leon completed 16 flying laps of the 12.9-mile Nürburgring circuit, which is nicknamed the ‘green hell’ because of the dense woodland that surrounds the track.

But far from enduring hell, the What Car? team heaped praise on the 105PS Leon’s abilities, describing the low emissions hatchback as “secure”, “well-built” and “freshly styled”.

“For our 1,000-mile round trip from London to the ‘Ring, including sixteen 13-mile ‘Ring laps at full racing speeds and running around on the stunning local roads, our Leon Ecomotive recorded an overall average of 53.4mpg…Pretty amazing for a spacious five-door dive-seater with free road tax.”

As well as proving its green credentials, the Leon Ecomotive also demonstrated its sporting prowess by comfortably setting lap times of around 10 minutes.

Honda's new sporty hybrid - the CR-Z - which led a convoy of low emission vehicles on this year’s Eco Rally held yesterday, was also the star of a street art exhibition outside the Royal College of Arts (RCA).

Since Monday, the street art collective Agents of Change had been creating a bespoke piece of graffiti as a backdrop to a display outside the RCA. The live art installation was unveiled yesterday with the Honda CR-Z forming an integral part. The car was adorned in vinyl graphics to reflect the direction of the street art.

The street art incorporated a red, green and blue colour scheme - a reference to the three driving modes of the CR-Z - ECON (green), NORMAL (blue) and SPORT (red).

Agents of Change are among the 20 ‘Cultural Engineers’ celebrated by Honda as part of its Dream Factory activity in the UK. Each of the pioneering individuals – musicians, artists, filmmakers and social entrepreneurs – share common traits with the CR-Z and their work reflect the values of the hybrid coupe: delivering fun, great design, with a modern conscience.

Honda is celebrating the inspiring stories and ground-breaking achievements of these innovators through a website, a limited edition book, an eclectic exhibition in London and a series of nationwide workshops. The story of an exception: the BMW M3 is 25

The anticipation began in August 1985. That summer Germany’s automobile magazines built up their readers’ expectations for the fastest 3 Series BMW of all times. The key data revealed a sports car that would punch way above its class: 200 hp, top speed in excess of 230 km/h, sprint from a standing start to 100 km/h inside 6.7 seconds. However, the story was that “the most dynamic BMW 3 Series drivers” would have to wait until mid-1986. The pundits were right on that count. But one prediction missed the mark by a mile: anyone who “wants to be in the A Team needs to be turbocharged under the bonnet”. Not true.

BMW M3 E30 Evo1 1988

The BMW M3 became the most successful touring car in motor-sport history. The M3 project was launched just a few months earlier. Production of the M1 mid-engine sports car had already been discontinued for some time and BMW CEO Eberhard Kuenheim commissioned a design for a successor, almost as an aside, according to legend. After one of his regular visits to Motorsport GmbH in Munich’s Preußenstraße he said, almost as he was leaving: “Mr. Rosche, we need a sporty engine for the 3 Series.” His aspiration was in good hands. Motorsport GmbH with its managing director of technical development Paul Rosche had demonstrated its expertise with the legendary 5 Series saloons driven by M engines as well as developing the Formula 1 turbo engine that powered Brazilian Nelson Piquet to win the World Championship in the Brabham BMW in 1983.

BMW M3 E36 Coupé 1992

The new 3 Series engine had something in common with this: the crankcase. It originated from volume production and actually formed the basis for the two-litre engine with four cylinders. Four cylinders meant less weight and high torque, an ideal platform for a sports engine in the projected displacement class. Naturally enough, the series four-cylinder engine was much too tame for a sports engine. A comprehensive power boost was called for in order to turn the plucky daily workhorse into an athletic and sporty power unit. The BMW design engineers increased the displacement to 2.3 litres and applied a formulation that had already achieved significant successes over a period of many years: four-valve engineering. There was also another reason for the decision to opt for a four-cylinder engine and not adopt the six-cylinder engine introduced in the BMW 3 Series. The longer crankshaft in the big engine started to vibrate much earlier than the shorter four-cylinder shaft. The design engineers therefore designed the crankshaft drive of the BMW M3 with sufficient torsional stability to achieve 10,000 revolutions a minute and more. By comparison with the four-cylinder engine installed in the series vehicles, this represented an increase of more than 60 percent. The rated speed for the road version of the BMW M3 was still significantly below the critical range at 6,750/min and therefore offered sufficient scope for further developments.

Paul Rosche recalls: “We started work immediately. One advantage was that the big six-cylinder engine originally had the same cylinder gap as the four-cylinder engine. We therefore cut two combustion chambers off the four-cylinder head of the M88 and bolted a panel over the hole on the rear side.” This meant that the new four-cylinder engine had a second forebear. The six-cylinder engine that had initially created a sensation in the M1 and had meanwhile transformed the M635CSi into one of the fastest coupés in the world. Paul Rosche: “Whether you believe it or not – we had created an outstanding four-cylinder engine for the 3 Series within the space of two weeks. Under the development name S14, this engine was to generate headlines in sport and in volume production over the years to come. One Sunday, I drove to von Kuenheim’s flat and gave him the car for a test drive. When he came back he said: ‘Good, I like it.’ And that’s how the M3 came into being."

BMW Group announces support for new iPod out feature for iPhone and iPod touch. Next generation of vehicle integration for iPhone and iPod touch enables use of the latest iPod music features in BMW and MINI vehicles.

BMW Group today announces its support for the new iPod Out feature, in iOS 4, the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system. The launch of a newly developed BMW Group interface technology will provide BMW and MINI drivers with an easy-to-operate, intuitive way of using their  iPhone and iPod touch in future BMW Group vehicles.

iPod Out enables BMW and MINI infotainment systems to display and control the music playback feature in iPhone and iPod touch in the vehicle’s main display.  The on-board monitor in BMW and MINI provides users with the simplicity and familiarity they have come to trust in their iPhone and iPod touch and the intuitive and integrated iPod navigation menu can be safely operated through the vehicle’s  interface controls. Additionally, state-of-the-art iPod features such as custom playlists and Genius, which instantly creates a playlist of songs that go well together from a user's own library, is immediately made available to BMW and MINI drivers through the vehicle’s main display. iPod Out requires iOS 4 with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPod touch (second and third generation).

The new interface technology developed for this purpose by the BMW Group enables continued availability of iPod Out features of iPhone and iPod touch in vehicles and represents a new milestone in consumer electronic device vehicle integration. Future vehicles equipped with this technology will be able to adapt more quickly to the software lifecycles of iPod touch and iPhone. The new interface technology was developed by an international cooperation of the BMW Research and Development Centre in Munich, Germany and the BMW Group Technology Office Palo Alto in Silicon Valley, California.

Once again the BMW Group takes a leading role in the Infotainment integration of iPhone and iPod touch. In 2004, BMW was the first automobile manufacturer in the world to integrate iPod in the audio system. In the following year a corresponding solution was presented for MINI. Right on time for the market launch of iPhone in 2007, the BMW Group once again offered an exclusive technological solution for integrating iPhone in the infotainment system of its vehicles.

The new BMW Group iPod Out support mirrors the innovation strategy of BMW ConnectedDrive for the BMW brand and will be part of the new offer called MINI Connected for the MINI brand. Both brands aim at connecting driver and passengers to their personal infotainment world in an intuitive and non-distracting way while on board. The optimized use of consumer mobile devices in an on-board environment play a central role in this connection.

The BMW model range from the autumn of 2010.

Starting in the autumn of 2010, extensive additions to the engine portfolio and the equipment range for a large number of model series will bring about a further increase in the diversity of the BMW model range. Following its successful launch, the new BMW 5 Series Sedan can, as from September 2010, also be equipped for the first time with intelligent four-wheel drive technology BMW xDrive. The electronically controlled four-wheel drive system will be featured in the BMW 550i xDrive Sedan, which is powered by an eight-cylinder engine. The BMW 535d Sedan offers a further choice of engines. The new top-of-the-range diesel version from the series is powered by a 220 kW/300 bhp straight six-cylinder engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo, which will also be available for the BMW 5 Series Touring as from September 2010. The car’s engine portfolio will also be complemented by two further engine variants immediately following its market launch. In addition to the BMW 535d Touring, we will also see the arrival of the BMW 525d Touring (150 kW/204 bhp) and the BMW 528i Touring (190 kW/258 bhp) in the autumn of 2010.


From September 2010, the equipment package Design Pure Impulse will be available for the BMW Z4, giving the charismatic roadster a particularly sporty and aesthetical appearance. The BMW 116d entry model from the BMW 1 Series now fulfils the EU5 emission standard. The BMW X1 xDrive23d is now also available with a six-speed manual transmission. Further innovations apply to the optional equipment available for the BMW 3 Series, the BMW 1 Series, the BMW X1 and the BMW Z4.

BMW 5 Series M Sports Package Exterior

BMW 5 Series Sedan: Premiere for BMW xDrive and the world’s best performing six-cylinder diesel engine.
The intelligent four-wheel drive system BMW xDrive now also provides the new BMW 5 Series Sedan with the highest level of supremacy in all road and weather conditions. The permanent, electronically controlled four-wheel drive system guarantees optimum power transfer at all times through precise and variable distribution of motive force to the front and rear axles according to each situation. In normal driving conditions torque is transferred to the front and rear axles at a ratio of 40 : 60. This distribution ratio can be changed within a fraction of a second if the sensors monitoring the slip on all wheels detect the respective requirement. The xDrive system has an anticipatory function, stabilising the vehicle before the driver even notices the necessity to act. As the system is adapted for optimised driving dynamics, it also constantly transfers increased power to the rear wheels as soon as the vehicle enters a bend. When the vehicle exits the bend, the xDrive system returns to its basic setting in favour of optimum traction and stability.

The system is employed in the new BMW 550i xDrive Sedan. The series’ top-of-the-range model is powered by a 300 kW/407 bhp V8 engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo and direct petrol injection and features as standard an eight-speed automatic transmission. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in 4.8 seconds and average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle is 11 litres/100 km.
September 2010 will also see the launch of the fourth and most powerful diesel version, the BMW 535d Sedan. Its straight-six engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo and Common Rail direct injection develops a power output of 220 kW/300 bhp at 4,400 rpm from a cubic capacity of 3 litres. Maximum torque is 600 Nm, which already becomes available at 1,750 rpm. The supercharging system featured by the world’s most powerful six-cylinder diesel engine corresponds to the Variable Twin Turbo principle, meaning that just above idling speed a smaller supercharger is activated, an additional, larger supercharger being activated in the case of an increased torque demand.

BMW 5 Series M Sports Package 18-inch M light alloys

Spontaneous and sustained engine power allows the BMW 535d Sedan, which is equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission, to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. This racing temperament is combined with impressive efficiency. This is mainly due to the Common Rail system featured by the all-aluminium engine, which operates at a maximum pressure of 2,000 bar, guaranteeing a particularly accurate supply of fuel. The BMW 535d Sedan achieves an average fuel consumption of 6.1 litres/100 km in the EU test cycle.

BMW 5 Series Sports Package Interior

Thus, the BMW 5 Series Sedan now offers a choice of four petrol and four diesel power units. Front-runner in the efficiency rating is the entry model BMW 520d. The saloon car, which is powered by a 2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with 135 kW/184 bhp and comes as standard with Auto Start Stop function, continues to extend its lead within the competitive environment thanks to an average fuel consumption of 4.9 litres/100 km and a CO2 emission level of 129 grams per kilometre according to the EU test cycle.

BMW 5 Series Touring with an extended engine range.
Immediately after its launch, the new BMW 5 Series Touring is also going full throttle through the introduction of further engine variants. From September 2010, two additional diesel engines and a third straight six-cylinder petrol engine will be available for the successful business touring car. The most powerful diesel model is – analogous to the saloon – the BMW 535d Touring. Thanks to a 220 kW/300 bhp straight six-cylinder engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo and Common Rail direct injection, the Touring model sprints from 0 – 100 km/h in a mere 5.7 seconds. According to the EU test cycle, average fuel consumption of the BMW 535d Touring is 6.3 litres/100 km.

The BMW 525d Touring completes the available range of diesel models. Likewise, it features a 3-litre straight six-cylinder engine plus turbo charger with variable intake geometry and Common Rail direct injection. The engine delivers 150 kW/204 bhp at 4,000 rpm, with maximum torque of 450 Nm being available between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm. The BMW 525d Touring accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and has an average fuel consumption of 6.3 litres/100 km in the EU test cycle.

The 3-litre straight six-cylinder engine with direct petrol injection (High Precision Injection) under the bonnet of the BMW 528i Touring delivers a power output of 190 kW/258 bhp at 6,600 rpm in lean operation and achieves maximum torque of 310 Nm between 2,600 and 5,000 rpm. The BMW 528i Touring sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds, average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle is 8 litres/100 km.

M Sports Package for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and the new BMW 5 Series Touring.
The M Sports Package for the new BMW 5 Series Saloon and for the new BMW 5 Series Touring will be presented simultaneously in September 2010. The package, which was developed by the BMW M GmbH, comprises components that have been specifically adapted to match the suspension, the aerodynamics, and the exterior and interior design of each model. The M sports suspension, M aerodynamics package and 18-inch M light alloys featuring a double spoke design contribute towards enhanced driving dynamics and an exceptionally powerful appearance. Moreover, optionally available features include 19-inch M light alloys as well as an M rear spoiler for the saloon.

Sports seats featuring Alcantara / fabric upholstery especially developed for the M Sports Package give the interior a particularly sporting ambience. The upholstery’s exclusive character is underlined by high-grade materials, contrasting seams and the M emblem applied to the seat. Further interior features included in the M Sports Package comprise, inter alia, an M leather-clad steering wheel, an M gear lever knob, the M footrest, an anthracite BMW Individual roof lining and M aluminium hexagon interior trim strips.

BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo: Two further models featuring BMW xDrive.
September 2010 will also see the addition of further four-wheel driven model variants of the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo. In addition to the BMW 550i xDrive Gran Turismo and the BMW 530d xDrive Gran Turismo, two further six-cylinder models can now be equipped with the intelligent four-wheel drive system.

The variable torque distribution technology featured by the BMW 535i xDrive Gran Turismo is combined with the most powerful straight six-cylinder petrol engine. The 225 kW/306  bhp power unit with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, High Precision Injection and fully variable valve control VALVETRONIC facilitates acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 6.3 seconds with an average fuel consumption of 9.3 litres/100 km. The most powerful diesel engine in the portfolio featured in the BMW 535d xDrive Gran Turismo delivers an acceleration of 6.0 seconds and an average fuel consumption of 7.1 litres/100 km. The powerful six-cylinder engines and the intelligent four-wheel drive system featured in both models come as standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

BMW 7 Series: Premiere for BMW xDrive combined with a diesel engine. 
From September 2010, the range of four-wheel driven 7 Series models will also be extended. In addition to the BMW 750i xDrive, the BMW 740d xDrive now also features the intelligent four-wheel drive system for supreme power in every driving situation, meaning that the BMW 7 Series will include for the first time four-wheel drive technology combined with a diesel engine.
The straight six-cylinder engine in the BMW 740d xDrive features TwinPower Turbo technology and Common Rail direct injection. It develops maximum power output of 225 kW/306 bhp at 4,400 rpm and maximum torque of 600 Nm is available between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm. The luxury saloon accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6 seconds and average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle is 7 litres/100 km.

The range of optional equipment available for all models of the BMW 7 Series is also being extended. The optional comfort seats in the rear compartment are now also available in a three-seat version.

BMW Z4 Design Package Pure Impulse

With its classic roadster proportions, the BMW Z4 is in equal measure the embodiment of sporty driving pleasure and premium elegance. The Design Pure Impulse equipment package available as from September 2010 offers the perfect opportunity to emphasise the two-seater’s sporting aesthetics in a particularly intensive way. It comprises an exclusive combination of colours and materials featured on interior elements, specifically emphasising the vehicle’s dynamic character. The Design Pure Impulse equipment package can also be combined with a new, likewise exclusive body paint colour.
The most significant feature of the Design Pure Impulse equipment package is the choice of precisely matching interior colours and materials. Like the equipment package Design Pure White, which accentuates the roadster’s premium elegance and was already presented at the launch of the BMW Z4, the package’s configuration is based on the recommendations of the BMW design team. Exclusive components of the Design Pure Impulse equipment package are the black Alcantara / Nappa leather sports seats Circuit with yellow colour accents, a black Alcantara surface décor with a yellow contrast seam on the front seat passenger side as well as high-grade BMW Individual interior trim strips in a black piano lacquer finish. The sporting ambience is complemented by an anthracite BMW Individual roof lining, yellow Alcantara inserts in the door linings, the lower section of the instrument panel also in yellow as well as structural fabric car mats. The arm rests on the centre console and in the doors are covered with high-quality black Nappa leather. The body colour plain Atacama Yellow is available exclusively for the Design Pure Impulse equipment package. Alternatively, there is an option of Alpine White, plain Black, Space Grey metallic, Titanium Silver or Sapphire Black metallic.

BMW X1 xDrive23d now also available with six-speed manual transmission.
September 2010 will also see the increased diversity of the engine and transmission variants available for the BMW X1. The BMW X1 xDrive23d can now also be purchased in conjunction with a six-speed manual transmission. The previously obligatory six-speed automatic transmission is now available as an option. The most powerful diesel version of the compact BMW X model features a four-cylinder engine with TwinPower Turbo technology and Common Rail direct injection, the piezoelectric injectors of which operate at a maximum pressure of 2,000 bar. Peak power output is 150 kW/204 bhp with a maximum torque of 400 Nm. The transfer of this output via the six-speed manual transmission facilitates an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. Average fuel consumption of the BMW X1xDrive23d in the EU test cycle is 6 litres/100 km. The CO2 emission level is 158 grams per kilometre.

New equipment options for the BMW 3 Series, the BMW 1 Series, the BMW X1 and the BMW Z4. BMW 116d now complies with EU5 standard.

Starting September 2010, attractive additions to the range of optional equipment for optimising comfort and the entertainment and communication functions will be available for the BMW 3 Series, the BMW 1 Series, the BMW X1 and the BMW Z4. The comfort access function available for all models now includes an illuminated entry system, the light sources of which are integrated into the exterior door handles. The tuner for Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB) programmes also available as an option has now been upgraded to include the DAB+ standard.

From September 2010, the BMW 1 Series entry model will also comply with the EU5 exhaust emission standard. The BMW 116d powered by a 2-litre four-cylinder 85 kW/115 bhp diesel engine is available both in a 5-door and a 3-door version and, with a fuel consumption of 4.5 litres/100 km in the EU test cycle, it offers better fuel economy than any other model of this series. With the new classification of the BMW 116d, all models of the BMW 1 Series now fulfil the EU5 standard.
