Barretts Honda's Jazz tops residuals tables.
Barretts Honda of Canterbury are pleased to announce that the Honda Jazz is Britain’s best car for retaining its value according to Parker’s annual depreciation report which surveyed almost 300 model ranges.
As well as class-leading residual values, the latest Jazz – which went on sale in 2008 – offers many features of a bigger car such as load space, driving feel and high-spec equipment, but with the great fuel economy, low emissions and more affordable running costs of a small one, making it ideal for car leasing and contract hire customers.
And the Japanese carmaker can afford to be pretty smug at the moment, with its newly-launched CR-V set to boost the residuals at the larger end of the Honda model line-up. The 2.2-litre ES, likely to be the most popular variant, has a residual value of 39.1 per cent based on 3 years or 60,000 miles. Its nearest competitor, the Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 Sport TDi, comes in at 38.9 per cent.
Residual Values
Residual values from CAP Monitor based on three years or 60,000 miles are:
- Jazz 1.2 S (90PS) 42%
- Jazz 1.2 SE (90PS) 43%
- Jazz 1.4 ES (100PS) manual 44%
- Jazz 1.4 EX (100PS) manual 44%
The Parker’s survey uses the value of cars, as if they were being sold privately, in good condition with 10,000 miles on the clock and compares this to their cost as new, 12 months earlier.
Small cars showed they are certainly the safest bet for depreciation, taking 35 of the top 40 places in the index.

THE FREELANDER 2 ‘WHITE & BLACK’ SPECIAL EDITIONS FOR 2010
The Freelander 2 ‘White & Black’ Special Editions are new entry-level additions to the Freelander 2 range for the 2010 model year, and will be on sale in January 2010, priced from £19,495 on-the-road.
The Special Editions are available in Alaska White and Santorini Black and both come with the Ebony cloth interior. They represent a lower entry price with a more generous specification and complement the new Freelander 2 Sport, also on sale at the start of next year.
The Freelander 2 ‘White & Black’ models feature the six-speed manual 2.2-litre diesel powertrain, complete with keyless starter button and Land Rover’s intelligent Stop/Start e_technology which delivers combined fuel economy of 42.2mpg. Privacy glass, 17” alloy wheels and load space cover are also standard.
John Edwards, Land Rover UK managing director said: “With a price less than £20,000 and the economical yet powerful diesel engine featuring intelligent Stop/Start technology, the Freelander 2 ‘White & Black’ Special Editions represent exceptional value for money in the compact SUV sector. Couple this with the vehicle’s enhanced styling and specification, the ‘Special Editions’ not only offer the Freelander 2’s trademark ever-ready versatility, but are pleasing to the pocket and to the discerning eye.”
The Freelander 2 is Land Rover’s best-selling model, with over 44,000 sold in the UK since launch in 2006. Sales so far for 2009 represent a 16% share of the sector.

What Car? 4x4 winner
What Car? Car of the Year awards 2010 - 4x4 winner
The winner
Land Rover Discovery 3.0 TDV6 XS
List price £41,375
Target price £38,866
Buyers might be deserting full-size 4x4s in favour of smaller, more affordable alternatives, but for those who still want the full-flavour version, we reckon there’s only one option – the Land Rover Discovery.
We named the Discovery as our overall Car of the Year back in 2005, but its brilliance remains undimmed. In fact, thanks to a recent comprehensive update, the Discovery is shining brighter than ever. Every area of the car has been improved. Inside and out, there’s a slick new look, although the Disco’s rugged charm hasn’t been diluted.
The brilliant new 3.0-litre diesel engine has given the Discovery a major boost: it’s much stronger than the 2.7 it replaces, yet is 2.7mpg more fuel efficient. Some subtle improvements have made the Discovery even better to drive, too – the ride is as cosseting as ever, but the car is a bit more nimble on twisty roads.
What hasn’t changed is the Discovery’s incredible practicality: thanks to its roomy cabin and versatile seven-seat layout, it’s perfect for big family trips.
It’s the Discovery’s ability to excel at so many different roles that makes it so appealing. As well as offering executive car comfort and MPV practicality, it’s still a real go-anywhere off-roader. Thanks to lots of ground clearance, hill descent control and Land Rover’s clever Terrain Response system, you can be sure that the Discovery will get you where you want to go without a fuss.
At more than £41,000, our chosen XS model isn’t cheap, but many rivals cost more and it comes with everything you’ll need as standard, including leather seats, sat-nav and parking sensors. When you consider that the Discovery is so many great cars in one, it’s a bargain.

The Freelander 2 Sport For 2010
Introducing the Freelander 2 Sport, which goes on sale in the UK in January 2010.
In showrooms early next year, the Freelander 2 Sport will be available with two derivatives and two colours – Santorini Black and Lago Grey. Both will feature exclusive 19" limited edition diamond-turned alloy-wheels, a unique two-tone interior together with a rear spoiler, colour-keyed exterior trim and matching door handles and mirror casings.
There is a standard model available in both Black and Lago Grey with cloth interior and one with a sports styling pack available only in Lago Grey.
A unique two-tone interior is introduced on both derivatives, in contrasting Ebony and Storm. The derivative featuring the sports styling pack will offer a leather interior and the standard version with a cloth/leather interior. The sporty theme continues through the cabin, with an Ebony-coloured centre-console and lower fascia complemented with two-tone door casings.
The Sport emblem is embossed on the front and outer rear seat head restraints, with Storm coloured stitching on all seats and unique Ebony interior carpet mats with contrast piping feature throughout.
The Freelander 2 Sport is available with the powerful and economical 2.2-litre TD4 diesel power unit. The manual diesel comes with Stop/Start technology delivering an 8% improvement on CO2 emissions compared to the previous manual diesel Freelander 2 (from 194g/km to 179g/km) and fuel consumption is reduced (from 37.7 to 42.2mpg – an improvement of 4.5mpg).
John Edwards, managing director, Land Rover UK said: "With its dynamic styling, the Freelander 2 Sport allows you to combine sporting characteristics with all the sustainability and driveability benefits of the intelligent Stop/Start technology."
The Freelander 2 Sport goes on sale in January 2010, priced from £26,695 on-the-road.
