SIX-ENSATIONAL - SÉBASTIEN LOEB WINS UNPRECEDENTED
SIXTH CONSECUTIVE WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP

Sébastien Loeb snatched the World Rally Championship by a single point at the weekend in a dramatic final rally of the season in Wales. Starting the Wales Rally GB a point behind Mikko Hirvonen, Loeb held his nerve to lead from start to finish to secure a famous victory, his 54th overall, and a historic sixth consecutive World Rally Championship Drivers’ title.

Loeb and co-driver Daniel Elena’s triumph, their seventh of the season, capped off a successful year for the Citroën Total World Rally Team who wrapped up the Manufacturers’ title at the penultimate rally in Spain three weeks ago.

Sébastien Loeb commented, “There was so much pressure right up to the end of the rally. It’s never easy to compare one title with another, but I think this is the best one in terms of the sporting battle we had. This was the final rally and we couldn’t afford to get it wrong. Everybody expected us to win, but I can tell you that nothing was certain until we reached the finish.”

Dani Sordo, who took third place in Wales and third overall in the 2009 World Rally Championship commented, “When we got to within nine tenths of Mikko in the penultimate stage, we told ourselves we had to give it a go and we pushed to the limit. We believed we could do it, but he managed  to hold out. I’m satisfied with a third-place finish in the championship, and that I made a real contribution to Citroëns’s success. We’ve had another very good season.

Citroën UK’s Managing Director, Gary Savage, commented, "Three weeks after winning the Manufacturers’ title, we’ve rounded off this extraordinary season with the Drivers’ title too. As we celebrate Citroën’s 90th anniversary year we now have the best team and best driver and co-driver in the World Rally Championship. THE NEW CITROËN C3

GET AN EIFFEL OF THE NEW CITROËN C3!

To celebrate 90 years of Citroën and 120 years of the world famous Eiffel Tower, the two are joining forces again, after 75 years, in a stunning display of ‘Créative Technologie’.

Every night for three months from 22nd October, a special 12-minute light show will take place on the Eiffel Tower - one minute for each decade the ‘Iron Lady’ has stood proudly in the heart of Paris.


At 8.00pm on 22nd October - to mark the first of these displays - Citroën will be streaming live footage of the event from webcams mounted in 10 new Citroën C3’s, which will be positioned at key vantage points around the tower itself.


The footage will be broadcast at www.toureiffel.citroen.com, and visitors to the site will be able to change viewpoints to take in the display from all angles.  As well as taking advantage of the new C3’s sensational ‘Zenith’ windscreen, the webcam pictures will be displayed in vertical 9:16 format - a revolution for internet video. 


The Zenith windscreen on the new C3 - Citroën’s latest model - provides a driving experience like no other, with a huge glass screen that soars above the heads of front occupants offering unprecedented levels of visibility - perfect for admiring the full height of the Eiffel Tower and the new light show in all its glory.


Citroën and the Eiffel Tower enjoyed a historic partnership for almost ten years between 1925 & 1934, when André Citroën had the Company’s name displayed in lights on the iconic structure.  A total of 250,000 light bulbs and 600 kilometres of electric flex were used to make the 30 metre high letters.  The spectacle was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s largest advertising sign.  The illuminations were so bright that Charles Lindbergh used the tower as beacon when coming into land after his solo flight across the Atlantic.

Land Rover has confirmed today that a production version of its exciting LRX concept car will be built. The new car will debut next year and join the Range Rover line-up in 2011.

Designed and engineered at Land Rover's state of the art Gaydon facility, the new Range Rover will be the smallest, lightest and most efficient vehicle the company has ever produced.

The new car will be built at the multi award-winning plant in Halewood, on Merseyside, subject to quality and productivity agreements and will be sold in over 100 countries around the world.

It is a demonstration of our commitment to investing for the future, to continue to deliver relevant vehicles for our customers, with the outstanding breadth of capability for which we are world-renowned."

The new Discovery 4 has taken home two accolades at the Caravan Club's Towcar of the Year Awards 2010, which took place at the Royal Automobile Club in London last week. These are the first awarded to the new Discovery 4, which went on-sale in UK dealerships earlier this month.

The Discovery 4 won the 'Best Towcar Over £32,000' class and the 'All Wheel Drive Over 1800kg' category, beating the likes of the Lexus RX450h, Mercedes Benz E and C class, Volvo XC70 and XC60 and the Isuzu Rodeo. The testing was carried out at Millbrook Proving Ground to determine the car's towing ability, dynamics when hitched, acceleration and braking.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, driving judge, Barry Williams of The Caravan Club commented:  "The Land Rover Discovery 4 stood out among an astonishingly good selection of cars in the two classes it entered.  It will go anywhere and offers an impressive array of caravan-friendly features.  I'm sure it will be a popular choice with our members and their families."




The Discovery 4 has a class-leading 3500kgs towing ability and comes with new intelligent towing technologies such as Tow Assist, which helps the driver perform accurate towing manoeuvres, and Trailer Stability Assist, a system that initiates engine torque reduction and braking interventions to bring the towing back under control when trailer oscillations and uninvited steering movements are detected.

HONDA CR-Z Sports Hybrid

Take a look at the hottest hybrid ever!

Nearly two years ago, Honda teased us with the stunning CR-Z concept.

Now, the company has released the first official images of its groundbreaking sports car in production-ready form, ahead of the model’s Tokyo Motor Show debut.

Bringing true desirability to hybrids for the first time, the CR-Z will tackle more conventional coupés such as VW’s Scirocco. It follows the less sporty Insight – a model which also blazed a new trail by proving a petrol-electric car needn’t be costly.

While it took 18 years to materialise, this machine is the spiritual successor to the second-generation CRX coupé built between 1988 and 1991. And many of its trademark features, such as the glass panel below the boot spoiler and the elongated window profile, have been carried over.

Citroën is helping to sound-out the best music talent of 2009 at this year’s Q Awards, by sponsoring the ‘Best Album’ category.

The nominees for the prestigious title are: Arctic Monkeys, U2, Florence & the Machine, The Prodigy and Kasabian.

Now in its nineteenth year, the Q Awards remain one of Britain’s biggest and most respected celebrations of musical talent.

CITROËN SECURE THEIR 5TH MANUFACTURERS’ WORLD CROWN

The Citroën Total World Rally Team wrapped up the Manufacturers’ title for the fifth time this weekend following a one-two success for Sébastien Loeb and Dani Sordo in the Rally of Catalunya. Loeb’s success in Spain was his sixth victory of the season, his fifth successive victory in the Rally of Catalunya and a record 53rd win of his career.

Sébastien Loeb commented, “It was important to come first and second here, not only to wrap up the Manufacturers’ championship, but also to keep our chances very much alive for the Drivers’ title. Everyone did a great job this weekend and both our cars ran perfectly.”

Citroën UK’s Managing Director, Gary Savage, commented, “As Citroën enjoys its 90th anniversary year, Sébastien Loeb and Dani Sordo have given us yet another reason to celebrate - a fifth FIA WRC Manufacturers’ title, further cementing Citroën's reputation in this sport. Citroen’s £5k budget baby

C-Cactus blends style, space and low costs and is aimed at taking sales from Kia and Hyundai

Meet the cut-price Citroen that’s out to save the planet! The French manufacturer is fighting the influx of cheap superminis from Korea and China with a hi-tech but affordable production version of the C-Cactus. And our exclusive images show just how bosses are planning to turn concept into reality.

The C-Cactus study, first seen at the Frankfurt Motor Show back in 2007, took a new and refreshingly uncomplicated angle on car design. With its recyclable and lightweight plastic panels, diesel-electric hybrid powertrain and stripped-out interior, it weighed in at a paltry 900kg. As a result, it proved a modern car can be stylish and spacious without having a bloated kerbweight.

And that’s exactly what the production version pictured here will set out to achieve. The design has evolved into a more subtle statement, but retains the rounded bonnet and five-door hatchback body from the show car. The newcomer is expected to be similar in size to the Citroen C2, with clever packaging comfortably allowing space for four adults.

Up front, the twin-bar chevron grille is unmistakable, although in every other respect the styling moves the maker’s design language a step forward into the future. Two huge air intakes sit below Nissan 370Z-style boomerang lights, while prominent creases run along the sides of the car to the clean, uncluttered rear.

Taking the C-Cactus concept as a guide, the interior will represent a radical departure for Citroen. To create additional space and keep the kerbweight as low as possible, the entire dashboard structure could be ditched, with only a slim, floating centre console for the stereo and ventilation controls.

While the interior is purposefully low-tech, under the bonnet the C-Cactus is set to show supermini competitors the way forward. As well as a range of efficient small-capacity petrol and oil-burning turbos, the car will be offered with a three-cylinder HDi oil-burner mated to an electric motor. This draws on sister company Peugeot’s diesel-hybrid expertise, and will provide class-leading economy, as well as marking the start of a new wave of cheap but attractive hybrids.

Although Citroen wouldn’t be drawn on pricing, our sources suggest the conventionally powered models could go on sale for as little as £5,000, with the hybrid variant costing closer to £10,000. This would undercut the current cheapest hybrid, the Honda Insight, by a significant margin.

Rumours are rife that Citroen is planning to establish a new eco-brand to sit below its standard cars, which in turn undercut the recently introduced, premium DS line-up. Called Essentiele, the range would focus on low weight, simplicity of design and affordability – and the C-Cactus is mooted to be the first member of the family when it hits UK showrooms in 2012.

The Essentiele brand could also provide the perfect launch pad for a production version of the Revolte Concept, displayed at the Frankfurt Motor Show last month. This modern incarnation of the 2CV would use the same set of principles as the C-Cactus, prioritising a low price and funky design ahead of unnecessary luxury kit. Could it be the start of a back-to-basics revolution?

Citroen C5

It's the most powerful Citroen ever! The French company has got hold of a new 237bhp 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbodiesel and dropped it into the C5.

Already available in the Jaguar XF, this PSA-developed unit delivers 32bhp more power than the outgoing 2.7-litre V6 HDi, while torque is up by 10Nm, to 450Nm. The result is silky smooth pace and bags of mid-range punch, which gives incredible overtaking urge and off-the-line acceleration that shames many hot hatches.



It’s not all about performance, though, as the engine is cleaner and more efficient than the 2.7. Emissions are cut by 12 per cent to 195g/km, while economy is up 13 per cent to 38.2mpg.

The big Citroen is supremely comfortable, due to its plush cabin and hydropneumatic suspension. What’s more, the six-speed auto changes ratios seamlessly. All this makes for a more cosseting experience, as well as cruising ability on a par with that of a Mercedes E-Class.



However, in corners the C5 is no match for its Ford Mondeo class rival. The handling is hardly sharp and the steering vague. This soft set-up doesn’t make the most of twisty British B-roads.

The new V6 is offered only in top-of-the-range Exclusive spec. But although its £27,195 price sounds expensive, there’s a list of kit that puts more costly German competitors to shame. What’s more, the quality of the cabin materials is impressive.



Residuals are questionable, but Citroen’s showroom deals will help offset the depreciation – and with its refinement, comfort and huge spec, this car will leave few buyers wanting.
