HONDA FCX CLARITY

HONDA FCX CLARITY WINS 2009 WORLD GREEN CAR

At a press conference hosted by the New York International Auto Show and Mobil 1 at the Jacob Javits Center in, New York, the Honda FCX Clarity was named the 2009 World Green Car. The FCX Clarity was chosen from an initial entry list of 22 contenders nominated by 59 World Car jurors from 25 countries worldwide.
This is the second time Honda has won this award with the Civic Hybrid
receiving the same honour in 2006.

The FCX Clarity is a symbol of the progress Honda have made with fuel cell vehicles and there commitment to developing vehicles that promote renewable energy supplies and zero-emissions transportation

The FCX Clarity, is a sleekly styled hydrogen fuel cell-powered sedan currently available on a limited lease-basis, is propelled by an electric motor that runs on electricity generated by an on-board fuel cell stack. The vehicle's only emission is water, and its fuel efficiency is up to three times that of a modern gasoline-powered automobile and two times that of a gasoline-powered hybrid vehicle.

The World Green Car awards were inaugurated in 2003, and officially launched in January 2004, to reflect the reality of the global marketplace, as well as to recognize and reward automotive excellence on an international scale.

The awards are administered by a non-profit association, under the guidance of a Steering Committee of pre-eminent automotive journalists from Asia, Europe, and North America. There is no affiliation with, nor are the awards in any way influenced by any publication, auto show, automaker, or other commercial enterprise.

Jaguar XF WhatCar? Winner

The 2008 WhatCar? 'Car of the Year' winner, the Jaguar XF, retained its award-winning crown at the WhatCar? Awards held in London last night, winning 'Best Executive Car' for 2009.

WhatCar? editor, Steve Fowler, commented: "Jaguar's XF is a deserving winner once again – and it's about to get even better with new, greener engines. The XF is all about style, poise and pace – driving one is always a special occasion and the interior is one of the most dramatic of any car at any price."

Geoff Cousins, Managing Director of Jaguar Cars in the UK, said: "It is fantastic news for XF to win this esteemed WhatCar? award for the second time. The XF has been a resounding success since launch and despite the current challenging economic conditions, Jaguar made great progress in 2008.

Cousins continued: "We have had a terrific start to the year with the reveal of the greatly anticipated XFR and the new XF Diesel S – both of which set new benchmarks in terms of performance, economy and efficiency. Most notably, the new XF Diesel S features an advanced new 3.0-litre diesel engine and offers a marked improvement

Jaguar has recently announced a new 275PS high-performance XF Diesel S for 2010 Model Year featuring Jaguar's new AJ-V6D Gen III S 3.0-litre diesel engine that delivers a massive 600Nm of torque and reaches 0-60mph in just 5.9 seconds. It has a combined Fuel Economy of 42.0mpg – 12 percent better than the acclaimed 2.7-litre V6 diesel engine and emits just 179g/km – a 10 percent reduction in CO2*.

Revealed at the Detroit Auto Show in March, the new XFR is powered by the all-new supercharged 510PS (510bhp SAE) V8 with acceleration from 0-60mph in just 4.7 seconds making it the ultimate Jaguar sport saloon. A naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8, producing 385PS, powers other V8 XF models.

Distinguished by unique exterior and interior design features, the XFR includes revised bumpers and lower front air intakes, sill extensions, bonnet louvres and grilles, four tailpipes, a boot-lid spoiler, unique seats and 20-inch alloy wheels.

Since launch, the XF has won more than 30 commendations globally, the majority from respected UK publications including Top Gear, CAR magazine and The Sun motoring. What Diesel and Auto Express also voted the XF into their top spot by making it their 'Car of the Year' in 2008.

The 2010 Model Year XF and XFR are available to order now with first customer deliveries beginning.

An intelligent Stop

An intelligent Stop/Start system will soon be fitted as standard on all diesel manual Freelander 2 models helping to cut CO2 emissions by over 7% versus the existing diesel engine. The system turns off the engine when the vehicle is stationary and automatically restarts it when the driver is ready to move off. This prevents the engine from unnecessary idling, cuts CO2 emissions and reduces fuel consumption. As a result of this and a number of other enhancements including a reduction in overall weight, drivers can look forward to the prospect of filling up less, whilst still enjoying the capability to do more.

It is estimated that on a combined cycle (NEDC) fuel economy will rise from 37.7 mpg (7.5/100 km) to 41.5 mpg (6.8/100 km), an improvement of 10%.

Land Rover is committed to jointly investing £700m in sustainable technology over the next five years.
